Bud Light Signs On For ‪July 13th‬ Bud Light Open Modified 80 At Stafford

(Press Release from Stafford Speedway)

Bud Light, the world’s favorite light beer, has officially signed on to sponsor the July 13th Bud Light Open Modified 80.  The Friday, July 13th event is the 2nd Open Modified event of the 2018 Stafford Speedway season.  The inaugural event was won by the outlaw Tommy Barrett in commanding fashion with an off sequence pit strategy and a late bonsai move on Rowan Pennink.

Eric Goodale, Pennink, Dave Etheridge, Woody Pitkat, Chase Dowling, and more are back for the July 13th Bud Light Open Modified 80 to try and capture the $3,500 payday along with the 80 Ice Cold Bud Light’s that will accompany the winner’s trophy in NAPA Auto Parts Victory Lane.

“When David [Arute] told me about how the fans and drivers reacted to the June Twisted Tea Open Modified event, we were excited to get involved,” explained Brett Hollander, Marketing and Craft Beer Sales Manager at Hartford Distributors, Inc.  “All of us at Hartford Distributors and Bud Light, along with myself, are very excited to be a part of this great event at Stafford Motor Speedway.  Can’t wait to see another great modified race at Stafford and make sure the driver is hydrated in victory lane.”

Set to accompany the Bud Light Open Modified 80 is the recently announced Ted Christopher 13-lap shootout for the SK Modified® division to follow the regularly scheduled 40 lap feature.  The top-13 finishers in the 40-lap event will be inverted and set to run the shootout for a prize of $1,300.

Stafford and Bud Light have also lined up plenty of off track action including a Bud Light Happy Hour to be held from the time general admission gate open (5:15pm) to 6:15pm where Bud Light 16 ounce drafts will be $3.  After the completion of happy hour, 24 ounce cans will be $2 off for the rest of the evening. Bud Light will also be on hand with a midway display.

“We are ecstatic to have another world renowned brand sign-on to support our new Open Show concept,” explained Stafford Speedway Assistant General Manager David Arute.  “I can’t thank Brett Hollander and HDI Distributors enough for working with us on for this event.  If you thought the Twisted Tea 80 was fun this one will be even bigger.  The winner will have 80 ice cold Bud Lights in Victory Lane, the fans will get a Bud Light Happy Hour, and every starter will receive a 12-pack after the race to enjoy with their crew.  We want the July 13th Bud Light Open Modified 80 to go down in Dilly Dilly history.”

With just under 3 weeks from the Bud Light Open Modified 80, teams are encouraged to contact the speedway office to register for the 80-lap event or complete the online form.  Tickets for the Bud Light Open Modified 80 are also available online.  Tickets for the Bud Light Open Modified 80 are priced at $30.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.  Reserved seat tickets are $32.00 for all ages.  All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax.  Stafford Motor Speedway offers plenty of free parking along with overnight parking available for self contained Recreational Vehicles.

  1. Glad the teams and the fans get to enjoy the sponsorship this time- thank you HDI and Bud Lite

  2. Al Coholic says

Does this mean we will have free Bud Light??? Count me in!!!!!

  3. Maybe hats as well like Twisted Tea.

  4. You know what $3 beer means. No trips to the budget beer cooler in the parking lot. Thank you Bud Light!
This entire second running of the Open 80 is showing all kinds of signs that things are not going well. The entry list has not budged over 19 and includes the cars that didn’t show for the first one. This press release includes what appears to be a plea for drivers to pre register cars that so far has not gained traction like in the first race. The SK 5K was a spectacular success. The visual of a $3500 winner purse in comparison for a supposedly higher class of car is weak. The fact that Stafford allocated $500 to the Fearn bounty and is not boosting the $3500 is weak. The 13 lap SK shoot out is great but is also a sign that they track is hedging on what may turn out to be an Open modified field that is weak.
None of which dampens my enthusiasm or excitement for the event. And I’ll confess, $3 beer doesn’t hurt. But I wish they would do something with that headline purse number. And yes I know it’s Stafford so they never will.

ADD to that the VMRS race at Lee same night you have JEFF GALLUP 9th in points, Rowan Pennick, 4th in points, FLANNERY, 12 TH IN POINTS, woody 5th in points in VMRS, so u wont get any new cars from VMRS teams and don’t think many new WMT or ROC teams will haul for $3500 to win

  6. Just a bad date.

  7. You bring up a good point and one that will be interesting to watch wmass. The press release says “Eric Goodale, Pennink, Dave Etheridge, Woody Pitkat, Chase Dowling, and more are back for the July 13th Bud Light Open Modified 80e reads “” Sounds like Goodale, Pennink, Etheridge and Pitkat are blowing off Lee if Stafford did their homework. I know as I am enjoying my $3 Bud Light as practice unfolds I’ll be super interested to see if they are there. And if they are what does that say for the VMRS? It’s too early to speculate but does it say it’s a series of convenience rather then one where points matter and showing up is important? So many under currents. As for ROC an NWMT cars that ship has sailed. No spec, no dice.
You had to make some money on the 5K Stafford. Throw a few more bones in the pot for the Modified Open.

  8. Using the VMRS rules package (i.e. no Spec engines) on a night when the VMRS is running elsewhere doesn’t make a lot of sense.

  9. Of interest may be the fact Lee on Friday had features with 12 in the ironman, 12 in the Sportsman, 8 in the pure stock, 9 in the Street Socks and 7 Supers for a total of 48 cars. Stafford on 7/13 should have 68 modifieds across 3 divisions and over 100 cars total. I have no Idea if being at a place that has a lot more go in the show affects VMRS teams or not but we may find out.

  10. What Rafter said.

  11. Stafford had this date scheduled and Lee changed their MRS date to the same day. Stupid by Lee. Stafford will win this battle

  12. Fast Eddie says

Lee changed the date due to it originally being scheduled the day before the TriTrack SBM 125 at Star. If it goes like the MTS/VMRS situation last year, for the most part the Connecticut guys will be at Stafford and the New Hampshire teams will be at Lee. As much as I like Lee, the longer ride to Stafford will have much MUCH more Modified tracing.

  13. Fast Eddie says

It sure would be nice if Bud Light added to the winner’s purse to make it $5K to win…
