John Zych Jr. Keeps Rolling In NEMA Midgets At Speedbowl Finale Weekend

John Zych Jr. carried the momentum of a World Series in Northeastern Connecticut to a finale in Southeastern Connecticut in a week’s span.

Zych, of Mendon, Mass., got his second consecutive NEMA Midget feature win in the division’s 25-lap feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl’s Finale weekend.

Zych won last Saturday in NEMA Midget action at the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson Speedway.

It was the third victory of the season overall for Zych.

Paul Scally of Raynham, Mass. was second and Alby Ovitt of Barrington, N.H. third.

Randy Cabral of Plymouth, Mass. used a sixth place finish to clinch his seventh NEMA Midget championship, all coming since 2008.

Dan Cugini of Marshfield, Mass. won the 25-lap NEMA Lites feature. Avery Stoehr of Lakeville, Mass. was second and Jake Trainor of Medway, Mass. third.

Cabral won the 25-lap Pro Four Modified feature with Doug Meservey of Chatham, Mass. finishing second and Rob Richardi of Tauton, Mass. third.

Ovitt won the 37-lap 357 Sportsman feature. Shawn Monahan of Waterford was second and Jimmy Renfrew of Hookset, N.H. third. Stafford Speedway Limited Late Model division regular RJ Surdell of Willington was fourth.

Ray Christian III of Uncasville won the 100-lap Granite State Pro Stock Series feature. Gabe Brown of Center Conway, N.H. was second and Ben Rowe of Turner, Me. third.

Devin O’Connell of Madison, who finished 16th, won the Granite State Pro Stock Series championship.
