Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Mass., five-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby looked untouchable on his way to winning the division’s Seekonk 150.

Immediately following the event Coby, of Milford, announced that he would return to the track with his Mike Smeriglio Racing team for the Tri-Track Open Modified Series Open Wheel Wednesday show on June 26.

And Coby will keep himself a little busier than just in his Tour Type Modified that night at Seekonk.

RaceDayCT learned exclusively tonight that Coby will return to a Bertrand Motorsports Northeastern Midget Association ride that night to go looking for another Boston Louie Memorial victory that evening.

Coby is a two-time winner of the Boston Louie event at Seekonk, in 2013 and 2016.

“We are really excited to have Doug back into the No. 47 for the Louie,” team owner Tim Bertrand told RaceDayCT. “It’s one of our biggest races of the year, and he knows his way around Seekonk as good as anyone does.”

We plan to have all 5 of our cars at Seekonk.  Still working on seeing if Sammy [Swindell] can make it out to run the 1, but it will be there regardless.  We should have a very strong car count in both divisions.”

Coby has been moonlighting as a part-time driver for Bertrand Motorsports since 2012. His first career NEMA Midget victory came in the 2013 Boston Louie event.

Huge news for the biggest midget race the side of the Mississippi, if not the country! Slamming Sammy Swindel being in the field would be a huge treat too. Best of luck to the Bertrand’s and Doug.

  2. The Bertrand’s always bring fast cars. This should be fun for Doug. Best of luck to all
