Connecticut short track race fans will have the chance Wednesday at Thompson Speedway to welcome back a hometown favorite when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track for the Thompson 125.
NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series driver and former Thompson Speedway SK Modified champion Ryan Preece returns to the track Wednesday to compete in both the Whelen Modified Tour event for the Ed and Connie Partridge owned TS Haulers team and the track’s 30-lap Sunoco Modified feature driving for his longtime team owners Al and Cathy Moniz.
And on Monday Thompson Speedway officials announced that Preece will get even more time on the track in competition.
Preece, of Berlin, will compete in an SK Modified match race against Ronnie Williams.
Williams, of Tolland, is coming off his first career SK Modified victory at Thompson on May 19.

What’s the format? How many laps?
This could be fun. What cars will they drive SK I imagine. How many laps will it be? Is there any skin in the game?
There already was a match race scheduled. It’s the SK Modified Feature.
If you wanted something really entertaining they could have put them in Limited Sportsman. The 2 of Megan Fuller and Monahan’s Family Truckster would have been a hoot.
Per Thompson schedule.
*(Inclement Weather Date: Thursday, June 6, 2019)
Looking at the weather report they might want to consider running the WMT race first. It’s looking a little iffy after 6:00 p.m. Of course, whose to say they’re correct? It is New England after all!
Looks like most of it holds off until midnight or so (hopefully). Im sure they will try to get it in as Thursday night definitely looks like a wash. I know this, gonna be cool, so no shorts and bringing the sweatshirt!
