Ryan Preece made the most of his off weekend from his full-time job with the NASCAR Cup Series.
Preece used the weekend away from his JTG Daugherty Cup Series ride to make a return visit to victory lane in a Tour Type Modified.
Preece scored victory in the SMART Chevrolet 99 Saturday afternoon at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.
“We had a really good racecar,” Preece said in a release. “This is probably the best this car has ever been. It wasn’t easy. [Chuck Hossfeld] was real fast. Burt [Myers] was real fast. There were a lot of cars that I ended up having to race throughout the race. We made the right adjustments on the pit stop. We were able to get the lead and control it from there out.”
Hossfeld, of Ransomville, N.Y., was second and Myers, of Walnut Cove, N.C., third.
Preece led all but eight laps of the feature.
Preece became the third different winner in three SMART events in 2021 joining Matt Hirschman (Caraway Speedway – March 14) and Caleb Heady (Florence Motor Speedway – March 20).
Preece, the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion, will be right back in a Modified at another Virginia track in less than a week.
Preece will compete in the Whelen Modified Tour season opening event on Thursday at Martinsville (Va.).
Great news!!!! Always good to see Preece winning. He’s in control of his Modified destiny, and he knows how to get to VL.

Wearing a mask is far more important than washing hands and Vitamin D. Washing hands has always been important. Good hygiene should not be something new because of COVID-19. And Vitamin D does not prevent infection as much as it reduces the seriousness of the infection. Keep in mind that the food supply is already fortified with Vitamin D. Milk has been fortified with Vitamin D since the 1900s because of the severe deficiency of normally occurring Vitamin D in the promoted American diet. The American diet is woefully deficient in Vitamin D, hence it needs to be supplemented to get it right. I can remember the ads, from when I was a kid, promoting the use of salt, sugar, and butter. That would never happen today. You’re probably not going to click on the links but I can summarize it pretty simply. The Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, CDC and every other expert organization with current experience and data with Covid19 comes to the same conclusion. Masks work. More specifically masks in concert with hygiene and social distancing.
I’ve seen that study referenced. It’s popular in right wing media conveniently cherry picked to accomplish a specific result. It is not pertinent to a virus spreading in the general population nor is it relevant to Covid19. There is better current data.
Yet here we are a year later, all the sick and dead, packed hospitals, health care workers at the end of their rope and still this misinformation is foisted on the public from right wing media primarily. Regarding the nursing homes… nursing homes are safe havens to a certain degree. That airport had people traveling through from all over the world, leaving behind infection. From those airports, the pathogen oozed out into the local area. It was classic, but far more transmissible and contagious 😷. The CDC has issued guidance on when it’s appropriate not to wear a mask. It’s so convoluted I could care less about those rules. I don’t care if the virus could be spread by those that have been immunized. I wear the thing routinely as a civic responsibility in consideration of others in my community. It’s younger people getting infected now at very high rates and they need to be shown some respect and consideration. Someone mentioned the vaccine. I’m not “anti-vax”, but I won’t be getting that shot. Typical vaccine development takes 7 years. This was what, 7 months? There have been adverse effects reported but we don’t know what the risk is because there haven’t been any long term trials. This is essentially a trial that’s going on right now. It’s also important to note that none of the vaccines have been approved by the FDA. Emergency use authorization is not the same as their rigorous approval process. Alaska does not mandate helmets to be worn by adults on motorcycles. Mississippi does mandate adults wear helmets on motorcycles.
Alaska is ranked 33rd in the United States for motorcycle fatalaties at 4.44 fatalaties per 10,000 registered motorcycles. Mississippi is ranked No. 1 in the United States for motorcycle fatalaties at 15.92 fatalities per 10,000 registered motorcycles.
By your logic, these statistics would indicate that wearing a helmet does not make you safer while riding a motorcycle. Using your logic one would have to determine that a helmet serves no purpose and doesn’t make someone any safer than they would be not wearing it. I think most experts would argue differently, that wearing a helmet protects you immensely from head injuries, which are the most common cause of motorcycle fatalities.
So how can it be that in Alaska where there is no helmet law fewer people die in motorcycle accidents than in Mississippi, where there is a helmet law? Because the variables are immensely different when it comes to traffic, population density, etc.
The same goes for COVID statistics and mask wearing. Yeah, it’s a lot safer to go without a mask in Montana, where population density is next to nothing than in say New Jersey, where population density is high across the board. It doesn’t mean wearing a mask isn’t slowing the spread because obviously spread is much different in a densely populated area than in an area of less population density.
I have no idea how you came up with that helmet comparison or why it would even come to mind but it’s a debate point that as far as this forum goes is just at another level.
