Cory DiMatteo Scores SK Modified Victory In Speedbowl Opener

Cory DiMatteo (Photo: Jim DuPont/RaceDayCT)

Before the 2021 season Cory DiMatteo made the decision to run full-time in an SK Modified this year at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

That decision paid off immediately Saturday for the Farmington driver.

DiMatteo held off Todd Owen to win the 35-lap SK Modified feature Saturday at the Speedbowl Blastoff event.

It was the first career SK Modified victory at the Speedbowl for DiMatteo.

Overall it was the ninth career win at the shoreline oval for DiMatteo. He also has two SK Light Modified victories, two Legends victories and four Bandolero wins.

Owen, of Somers, was second and Joey Gada of Salem third.

Reigning Late Model division champion Jason Palmer of Berlin began defense of his 2020 title in style by winning the division’s 30-lap feature.

Ryan Morgan was second and Charles Bailey third.

Wayne Burroughs Jr. of Oakdale also began defense of a 2020 divisional title with a victory by scoring the win in the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature.

Johnny O’Sullivan was second and Jason Chapman third.

Ryan Waterman of Danielson was victorious in the 25-lap Street Stock feature. Jared Roy of Sterling topped the field in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. Rob Richardi led the way in the 20-lap Pro Four Modified feature.

  1. Embarrassed Bowl Fan says

I’m a lifelong Speedbowl fan and been attending races there for almost 50 years. I’ve tried to stay true through all the dark times the last 15 years. I was one of the people that hated the guy who runs Raceday CT because I listened to many of my Speedbowl pals say he was trying to ruin the place.
After today, I’m embarrassed that I’ve fallen for the scam for the last four years at the Speedbowl.
Today I was embarrassed to call myself of a devoted fan of the Speedbowl. Today was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever been a part of at any race track anywhere ever. Who is running the bowl? Is it run by second grade kids? That’s probably an insult to second grade kids actually.
Last year they said you couldn’t use a credit card there because they didn’t get the machines in time for the opening week. Then a few weeks later they said you couldn’t use a credit card because there was an issue programing the new equipment. Then a few weeks later they said you couldn’t use a credit card because they couldn’t get the right lines in from the road. Do they think people believe this crap? Cash is king and easy to hide right? Most people I’ve ever met in life who run shady businesses always want to deal with cash only. It sucks that this place has gone from a family entertainment destination to a place for a convicted criminal to get easy spending cash out of sight of lawyers, accountants and victims.
The general manager of the track should resign tomorrow in shame. What a joke. Did the management of the track try anything out before yesterday since closing last year? Speakers didn’t work, microphone’s didn’t work, track equipment didn’t work, scoreboard barely worked. I’m surprised the lights even went on.
Waited an hour to purchase a bad hot dog. There was like 400 fans there. How is that possible?
The bathrooms were disgusting. How are the bathrooms already disgusting on opening day? They never cleaned the bathrooms from 2020?
As much as I don’t want to see the Speedbowl go away, how long can we hang on through the misery of waiting for things to change back to normal? As long as this guys owns the track he’s never going to run it like a real business.
You can’t run a business these days with a bunch of people who don’t know how to log onto Facebook or understand how to build a competent staff.
Remember when that place was rocking? It was like a funeral today. Barely anyone there. And I don’t want to hear anybody blame the small crowd on the weather. I’ve been in the grandstands at the bowl when it was 38 degrees and the wind was freezing and there were 3,000 people there. The weather didn’t keep people away. I was at Stafford 8 days ago and more than 5,000 people were there and it was 43 degrees with 45 mph winds all night. I hate to say its time for the track to go away, but it is. It has just become a total embarrassment.

  2. The Atomic Punk says

A taste of the Karma Embarrassed fan….. and I love it!!…. BWAHAHAHAHAHA

  3. 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿

  4. But what about the racing. There was around a 100 cars there in 8 divisions including 17 each in the SK Lite’s and SK’s. The SK feature very respectable with 17 cars including a couple Gada’s, Owen, Christopher, Moeller and the Speedbowl favorites. Sammi Anderson of all people one day after the Stafford wreck is in the SK Lite feature. Tough woman.
So the light just went on did it? Complete with self serving accusations you can’t possibly know are true and a measure of finger pointing at others steering you down the wrong path. You know those accusations about making the track a cash business for sinister reasons. Readily accepted no doubt by those wishing the Speedbowl ill will but you know what? That’s the same kind of unsubstantiated nonsense the Speedbowl faithful have leveled at RaceDayCt. You just changed the direction of the nonsense.
But what about the racing? That is after all the reason for going regardless of the incompetence of the management team or motivations of the owner that are pretty clear now and have little to do with getting more people to go to the races there.
How is the 400 figure that different from last year? Regardless of the number the teams racing deserve your attention so what about the racing?
Last night the SMART tour put on what I believe was the best modified race of the season thus far. At a track that could only be described of spartan for it’s lack of fan conveniences. Yet they seemed to be pretty focused on the race.
I have no idea how any fan goes to a race track with an established record of fan convenience deficits, run by an indicted then convicted felon and somehow now feel he’s been taken advantage of.
To all those unfortunates that attended the race at the Speedbowl last night did you get a chance to watch any of the races while you were wallowing in your self imposed misery?

  5. Viva Race Fan says

Had a good time. Lots of laughs and d some good racing. Must have missed the miserable people. No 1 was having a bad time where l was. Hey 1 say 2021 . See you next Saturday.

  6. Benjamin Wisniewski says

I went to the opening day at the bowl yesterday and it was nice to sit in the new grandstands. I haven’t been there since 2019 because of the pandemic. They did a good job. That said. The bathroom haven’t been updated since I started going there in 1968. No concessions booths but ony two food trucks. Which had good food. No beer stands. Who ever heard of a racetrack that doesn’t serve beer. Even though it was to cold for it yesterday. You got to have beer. People are going to sneak it in. I did notice nip bottles in the bathroom. It was sad to see that they had a bus for a announces dooth. I like the improvements, but not the way it’s being managed. I like the Bowl and I don’t want it to go away. They need to attract more racecars. And hopefully that will bring in more race fans.

  7. Blast off!! 🚀

For every one fan that finally admits the 🚽 has been a huge, galactic, giant disappointment, there are dozens more that are hiding in silent embarrassment. Along with the handful of cult idiots that are saying the 🚽 is great.

I feel for those that have been patronizing the 🚽 all these years, only to be disrespected over, and over, and over, and over, ad infinitum. It is a shame. The 🚽 has lost its fanbase, and it will be extremely difficult or impossible to get it back.

I don’t think the racers enjoy running in front of an empty facility. What fun is a VL celebration with no fans to see it?

  8. Seekonk fan says

Give it time it will get better. Anyone try running a speedway ? Probably understaffed like most businesses at the moment. Gotta support what we have, or it will go away You are not being disrespected ! (Dadope’s ghetto talk) just enjoying the sport we all love. Think positive. And who pays for a $10 ticket with a credit card ? Just saying.

  9. Plasma Cutting Wonders says

“What fun is a VL celebration with no fans to see it?”

Why don’t you tell us since no one is there when you win your bicycle races?

  10. Embarrassed Bowl Fan says

Give it time it will get better? The same old excuses season after season.
Bathrooms at Thompson were clean for the Icebreaker and they had plenty of staff there. Speakers worked, scoreboard worked, didn’t have to wait an hour for food. And that place is being run by people that had never put on a race at that track before last September. How can they find the staff and time to be ready and the Bowl can’t? Been to Stafford three races this year, bathrooms are always clean, plenty of staff to run the place, everything works right. Why is it that two other tracks in the same state can find plenty of staff to operate and make sure things like scoreboards and microphones and speakers are working correctly and Waterford can’t do that? You’re trying to make excuses for bad management at one place that doesn’t care to make things right.
“Give it time it will get better”? How much time? Give it time it will get better is BS because it never gets better, it only gets worse every year. Give it time it will get better is the same thing they said in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. If you went there yesterday and actually believe they’re trying get better then you’ll fall for any scam there out there. They had six months to get ready for the season and did nothing. It was like they locked the gate last October and then showed up Saturday morning for the first time since last year.

  11. And no senior pricing!

  12. Okay, Doug has another screen name: Plasma Cutting Wonders. Or Liz is hopped on the Crazy Train.

  13. 🌈🦄2020 says

Great to see cars racing at the speedbowl again. Buckler says Christopher will be racing there six more times this year. Hope he’ll have better luck the next time. Awesome run by Owen as usual. Nobody could catch DiMatteo though. Scary crash by Bello. Hope he’s ok. Shock of the day was seeing Sammi Anderson. You’d think after Friday night she’d need a week to recover. Unfortunately she had more bad luck. Literally went flying with a hard landing. No fault of her own. Spafco will be very busy this week. Minis stocks put on a show like always. Looks like Erik Lutz will be a regular in the street stocks. Car that he purchased from Monahan looked beautiful. Same colors and number as his kids old sk. It was a very long day. Between the wrecks, rain delay and repairs to the broken gate. Seems the bowl wanted to continue what Stafford has started with broken walls. Most of the crowd didn’t make it to the end but the ones that did had a great time. Almost forgot to mention, poor Stone got Watermanned. Not wrecked but knocked out of the way for the win. Everyone saw that coming. Embarrassed fan has alot of gripes. I’ll just say this. He’s probably not coming back but if he does. Bring cash next time. Don’t cry about not being able to use a card to get in. Try the wood fired pizza. Five minute wait and guaranteed the best pizza you’ll ever have at a racetrack. I used the bathroom twice. Didn’t see any problems. Maybe he went to take a dump and the toilet backed up? I heard Buckler fine all day.

  14. Seekonk fan wrote, “Give it time it will get better. Anyone try running a speedway ? Probably understaffed like most businesses at the moment. This is an example of textbook, classic, pathological rationalizing and enabling.

Give it time????? How many more decades are you talking?

Understaffed? Yeah, afraid to work there. Afraid they won’t get paid.

Again, this is a business, not a charity. No need to support it. It delivers a product or it fails.

How many more years can the customer base take being disrespected and served a crappy product?

I’m thinking positive… 💭 🤔… and I’m thinking and hoping for new ownership.

We are moving to a cashless society. Embrace it. I rarely use cash. And with the pandemic, 😷 many businesses still refuse to use cash. I just used $6 in cash the other day, for the first time in months, at a little farm stand nearby. I haven’t taken cash out at an ATM in many, many months. And we don’t even use “credit cards” anymore, there are many modern ways to pay without cash.

  15. The Atomic Punk says

Plasma must know. Welds junk together and calls it art so he’d have all the answers naturally.

  16. It’s amazing how attendees tell stories that are 180 degrees different about their experience at the Speedbowl on opening night.

And then we have Punk and his karma, absolutely priceless 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Straight from the cult playbook. Or Trump University Fake News 101.

  18. Great job Corey on your first SK win at the Speedbowl against some pretty stiff competition.

  19. Earl wrote, “It’s amazing how attendees tell stories that are 180 degrees different about their experience at the Speedbowl on opening night.”

Be careful people, Earl is one of the thought police. He knows what you are thinking.

  20. Earl wrote, “It’s amazing how attendees tell stories that are 180 degrees different about their experience at the Speedbowl on opening night.”

Earl, you must be talking about the posters that are saying it was a good night? Right?

    😝 😝 😝 😝 😝 😝

  21. The racing was good – 2 last lap passes for wins in the mini-stock and street stock features, and there were approx. 10 “top shelf” competitors in the 17 car SK field. And, I saw a sign promoting the 5 special SK events which will apparently involve “the racing guys”. As usual, it will be interesting to see what happens at the Bowl this season.

  22. Read the comments, it’s there for you to see, not going to spoon feed you. Reading comprehension issue raring it’s ugly head again?

Amazing to hear you finally left the basement to go to the veggie stand. Did the sun blind you? Did you wear your mask little fella? Wow $6.00, was that the allowance you saved up over all these months of being held captive in that dark, scary, basement?

No I joined the Biden cult especially after he announced that anyone that makes less than 400k a year will not pay any taxes under his new tax plan. Retirement just got so much better. He is now my hero!

  23. Going on 20 entries and 2020 has the temerity to actually talk extensively about the races that took place at the Speedbowl. Well done big guy and thanks!

  24. Also glad to hear that Buckler was back behind the 🎤 and doing well.

  25. Danny's Market says

I just read one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever read here on RaceDayCT. I love these guys who think they are so smart and profess that society is going cashless. What they fail to realize is that the black market is a very significant part of the economy.

  26. Ambiguous Earl wrote, “It’s amazing how attendees tell stories that are 180 degrees different about their experience at the Speedbowl on opening night.”

    Really? How would you know?

The cult members are posting that it was a good night. Former cult members are posting the place is a shame.

If you mean the folks that are saying is was a good night, then I can agree with you. But the posts with details from the other folks that list the deplorable conditions make the pro-🚽 crowd look like a bunch of 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 🤥 .

    Who ya gonna believe?

I’m reading the comments Ambiguous Earl. Some say the night was good, some say it was not good at all with significant detail.

So Earl, which group of posters are posting “… stories that are 180 degrees different about their experience at the Speedbowl on opening night.”?

You are accusing one group of lying. 🤥 Which group would that be Ambiguous Earl 🤥 ?

C’mon Ambiguous Earl, list the posters by screen name that are telling “… stories that are 180 degrees different about their experience at the Speedbowl on opening night.”

  27. Something weird is going on with the Track, SK and SK lite lap times are almost identical, not much speed difference at all, SK used to run 14.1-14.3 all day long, now they are running 14.5-14.8 and SK Lites are running 14.7 lol. Need to change that up somehow maybe give the SK teams a better tire, SK’s are supposed to be the fastest Division of the night not a Division on par with a crate motor entry level Division. What is strange is Sk lites have stayed the same over the years in lap times but the SK teams are losing ground.

  28. Danny’s Market wrote, “I just read one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever read here on RaceDayCT. I love these guys who think they are so smart and profess that society is going cashless. What they fail to realize is that the black market is a very significant part of the economy.”

Well, dealing in the black market is not something I do.

And what are you going to do when cash is not available as it is today? That’s the way it is going, like it or not.

    Danny just identified as idiot.

  29. You are as cognitively deficient as our president. You read the comments and decide for yourself, all I did is made a general observation. Who do you believe? Please enlighten us since with your wisdom.

  30. The Atomic Punk says

Dareal stick to racing… When you go politics you Embarrass yourself with your CNN, Rachel Madcow talking points. We get it. You are King Lemming.

  31. Danny’s Market. Now there’s a blast from the past. Sponsored Reggie’s black 44 for many years.

  32. Its good to see racing at the bowl – don’t really care if it’s cash, score board working, always liked the open air bathroom in the stands / never any lines. Try going to Hudson/ no beer sales there either. Bowl Strong

  33. Could the lap times be affected by the time of each divisions race. I know the SKs ran last and someone mentioned a rain delay. I dont know when the SKL ran but maybe the track was in a much better condition at that time then when the SKs ran. Even so the SK lap times were about 3 tenths quicker than the SKL.

I will say the car counts wasnt bad, better than what I had expected. Waterford was only 6 SK;s off Stafford’s Friday night SK count. They beat Thompson’s Ice breaker by 2 SKs. Not too bad. Smaller car counts dont appear to be as bad on smaller tracks.

  34. Spinless Ambiguous Earl wrote, “You are as cognitively deficient as our president. You read the comments and decide for yourself, all I did is made a general observation. Who do you believe? Please enlighten us since with your wisdom.”

Earl, you did not make a general observation, it was a vague, ambiguous and non-specific bloviation. In other words, it doesn’t say anything, or can mean anything. What are you afraid of?

    🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓

    😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝

  35. The surface sucks. It is wiped out and useless. The track has no grip and prevents the better laps times. It will be very sensitive to temperature, rubber on the track, etc.

When was the last time it was resurfaced?

It sucked years ago and was a limiting factor.

  36. I was under the impression that the SK & SKL ran the same tires; M450 on the right and M30 on the left. I was also under the impression that was the rule at all 3 CT tracks so it was easier for both divisions to cross compete.

  37. 🌈🦄2020 says

If you’d like to see all the pictures of the cult members that were there racing Saturday check out the FB page. The rookies in the SKL’s were running lap times as fast as any veteran. That is until they all wrecked. The kid in the 81 lead laps but also wrecked some cars. He looked impressive for his first time out.

  38. CSG, I am sure track conditions had much to do with lap times. The track was green, no rubber and possibly weather conditions along with a surface that is deteriorating. I think you will find as the summer goes on, the track takes the rubber and the weather gets warmer times will definitely improve. Plus don’t forget it easier to put less HP to the surface with the SKL than the higher HP SK. The delta will increase as the season goes on.

  39. 🌈🦄2020 says

The speedbowl track surface is useless Dafella says. The track surface sucked years ago. What year didn’t it suck Dafella?

  40. Average top 5 cars, fastest laps.

    SK Lite
    Waterford Blast Off 2020……15.03
    Waterford Blast Off 2021…….14.98
    Stafford Last Friday Night…….19.63

    SK
    Waterford Blast Off 2020……14.75
    Waterford Blast Off 2021……..14.61
    Stafford Last Friday Night……19.10

In 2020 the SK’s at Waterford were 1.9% faster then the Lite’s as opposed to 2.5% faster in 2020.
For comparison at Stafford the SK’s were 2.7% faster then the Light’s last Friday night.

Fast laps aren’t the final word but they’re an indicator of relative speed. While the delta between the SK’s and Lite’s at Waterford was less then the prior year for the top 5 the SK’s were still faster on average.
For comparison I did Stafford. Normally I’d expect the delta to be greater on a bigger track and it is but really not by much as one would have thought.
Conclusion: there’s a lot of advantage to momentum racing that max out cornering speed.

  41. Bernie 20never says

I sure hope all of the track champions cleared out enough space to place that track championship hardware in their homes. What a joke.

  42. 🌈🦄2020 wrote, “The speedbowl track surface is useless Dafella says. The track surface sucked years ago. What year didn’t it suck Dafella?”

Good point 🌈🦄2020, the 🚽 surface has sucked for many, many years. Perhaps decades. Can’t recall when it was actually not sucking. The surface is so worn it is shiny, like it is polished. That indicates poor grip.

  43. The surface has such poor grip, teams are notorious for using traction control. Several years ago, there was a car that, on exit, sounded like it had a few plug wires off. Very aggressive traction control.

  44. “Teams are notorious for using traction control” at the Speedbowl. This practice is against the published rules. You have proof that this practice has been going on? For how long? Where did you specifically get this proof from? Which teams? Please explain.

  45. What these cash only pushers don’t realize is that that’s exactly what the elite want you to do so they can see how your credit score bottoms out and then charge you more for mortgages car loans and the like. When you put everything on a credit card and pay it off at the end of the month. Your credit score gets better and better no. It’s why my credit score is close to 800 and the basement dwellers that dig through their moms couch for cash AR only about 500

  46. darealgoodfella wrote, “The surface has such poor grip, teams are notorious for using traction control. Several years ago, there was a car that, on exit, sounded like it had a few plug wires off. Very aggressive traction control.”

Talk about zero cognitive ability, the answer is right there in my original post that you are challenging, you idiot. 😝😝😝😝😝😝

During qualifying, teams would line up around the track watching each car. It is known that the track surface sucks and has no grip. And what happens when there is no grip with high horsepower? They spin the tires on exit. That’s where traction control comes in. If you knew what to watch for, you might have been able to pick up on it. Those of us that know better, know better. You don’t.

    You’ll never know.

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

  47. 🌈🦄2020 says

The Punk is right when he tells Dafella to stick to racing. But then Dafella goes off the rails and claims that the track surface sucks and had been useless for decades. 😂😂😂🤡

PVC Primer and Brake Fluid was how we used to soak Tires at the Bowl. Ha ha . Good stuff.

  51. Fast Eddie says

I’m guessing the surface may be a little less than it once was in part due to sporadic use the last few years. I went to more than a few races every year pre-2017 and saw quite a bit of good side-by-side racing. And not just the lower divisions; SK’s, SKL’s, VMRS, MTS, TriTrack, WMT, NEMA, & ISMA ran that way as well,

  52. 🌈🦄2020 says

The racing surface has been horrible at the bowl for decades. You heard it here first folks. Worse than Thompson. I mean the owner of Thompson came right out and said the track is or will be too dangerous to race on very soon. Wonder what Dafella thinks about that. 🤣🤣🤣🤡

  53. Previous to Bemer’s renovations it was the Korteweg family that were known for injecting a healthy dose of money and renovations into the track when they took over in 1988 including the track resurfacing.
It’s funny reading that the surface now is sub par. Previous to 1988 the regulars there raced on a track that could legitimately be categorized as an obstacle course. Yet even with a track that brought outright panic to any outsider racing there for the first time the regulars produced some of the best racing in the long storied history of the Speedbowl.

  54. Folks, here’s the view from the the Godfather:

    https://sidsview.com/2021/05/09/some-new-some-same-old-at-the-bowl/

  55. How would someone know if the track surface “sucks” now if that same person hates the place, hates Bemer, has no respect for the people that race or watch the races there?
You obviously can’t have an idea of the track surface unless you’re going there. But it can’t be possible that you would go to a place you hold in such contempt.
So…. which is it? Doesn’t matter. The person who hates the Speedbowl this much also posted FIFTEEN TIMES in this thread alone. (So far)
That, my friends, is a sad strange dude. 😢
Enjoy the races. Have a great season. 🏁

  56. Earl? Earl? Where are you?

Have you read Sid’s review of the bowl 🥣 opening day? Earl, with your profound 🧐 judgement… is Sid’s view of opening day truthful and accurate, or 180º from reality?

Earl, you are 180º off from Sid, and Sid is The Godfather. You disagree with The Godfather, Luca Brasi will stop by with a message. Capiche? Hence, therefore, and in conclusion, you are the idiot.

Here you go Earl, for your convenience… https://sidsview.com/2021/05/09/some-new-some-same-old-at-the-bowl/

  57. Fast Eddie says

The present owners of thompson don’t want to deal with the oval and surface condition is their excuse. All they care about is the road course giving rich people a chance to play with their toys. I’m guessing they’re not happy hearing lime rock will be running. Good racing a couple of weeks ago and last year thanks to Mayberry and Michaud.

  58. Majorie Taylor Greene says

Everyone needs to be gentle on dafella. He is lashing out and being extra trollie because his whole world is crumbling around him. The Speedbowl is open the chicom marksist democrat flu pandemic is coming to an end and the next target of the Jewish space lasers is farmers markets!

  59. For those of you wondering about no beer available at the ‘bowl, it would appear that the history of legal issues surrounding the owner of the track may be an obstacle to obtaining a license to sell beer at the track. Those liquor/beer license are not given out to anybody, and someone with a troubled legal history probably won’t be issued a liquor license.

You can forget beer being available at the track for the foreseeable future, ain’t gonna happen.

  60. For those of you that want beer 🍺 🍻 at the track, you are being punished because of the legal problems of someone else. Now that should make you want new ownership.

  61. daRealWannaBeBicycleRacerWithShortsTooTight says

“You can forget beer being available at the track for the foreseeable future, ain’t gonna happen.”

Good. We all now know with 100% certainty that beer is coming to the Speedbowl soon!

  62. 🌈🦄2020 says

Well we’re moving on from the worst track surface in decades folks. Now it’s the beer. Poor sad Dafella. Doesn’t know what to do with himself in the basement besides rage against the speedbowl. Poor sad sad man. Quick somebody find a farmers market for the poor fella. 🤣🤣🤣🤡

  63. Just enjoying watching littlefella make a complete and total fool out of himself. This is better than eating 🍿 at the 🎪 and watching the 🤡 perform.

We jumped from Trump, to pandemic to Bemer to traction control to racing surface to 🍺 to Sid’s view. OMG, can’t wait to see what he can find to complain about next.

The basement life must be taking it toll.

  64. So many of you have still not read Sid’s review of opening night.

Earl posted, “It’s amazing how attendees tell stories that are 180 degrees different about their experience at the Speedbowl on opening night.”

Earl, is Sid 180º from what he experienced opening night?

  65. So many of you still insist on denying the facts. Sid’s review is excellent, and reiterates much of what I have been saying for years, like don’t shoot the messenger.

All of you that are ignorant, idiotic, etc., and it is obvious who you are, are exposing yourselves. Keep going.

Well, I have to go for a bike ride now, and stop off at one of my favorite farm stands for early season produce. 🥬 🍓

  66. Boy oh boy, really hit a nerve with the sucky surface revelation. That’s bringing out the cretins.

  67. I can’t believe all the complaints about The Bowl. It’s all BS. Just be thankful it’s still open. Once it closes, it’ll never reopen. Then it’s gone for good. Just support the track (or don’t support it).
After West Haven closed in 1966, those of us regulars (who didn’t have means of travel) realized that was the worst that could happen. Not the smelly bathrooms or the bad food. Enjoy what you have before you don’t have it any longer.

  68. Bernie 20never says

Of all the real problems the bowl has the racing surface isn’t one of them. It’s the best thing the track has had going for it in the past 20 years.

🚨 Breaking News 🚨 Dafella is on his way to the farm stand. This is a fluid situation. When we have more information you will hear it here first. Now back to our regularly scheduled rants about the speedbowl.

  71. All you #BowlAnon’ers are really sad.

Richard B., if the ‘bowl closes, it will because of all the bad management, the creep factor, the pathetic facilities, etc. turning people away.

The place has been holding itself hostage for years, if you don’t support it, it will go away, and this is what you have as a result… a laughable facility that gives you and everyone else the 🖕 every time. And folks like you keep coming back for more!!!! That’s the truly amazing part.

Talking about what the track is doing or not doing is not going to affect the track. What the track is doing or not doing is going to affect the track.

I had a wonderful bike ride, and picked up some fantastic produce.

Earl, is Sid reporting 180º from his actual experience? Earl??? Earl?????

How soon are you leaving New England?

  72. Hey, who is Cory DiMatteo?

  73. 1965 The Flight of the Phoenix. Jimmy Stewart leads an all star cast about a plane crashing in the desert. Against all odds a motley group of disparate characters craft a new plane out of remnants of the wreckage and fly it to safety at an oasis.
The VP Crew piece seemed obtuse to me. Sighting all the stuff that has been sighted here plus more. The bus not replaced by proper stands complete with a tower and sketchy billboards.
It’s all factual it appears but one thing was left out. The elephant in the room. Talking of an ownership like it’s Norm Wrenn, the Partridges or the Arutes whose only concern is proper management and promotion of a race facility. Complaining like a native on the oasis would as the Phoenix flies in that it just doesn’t look the way a plane should.
Billboards not up to snuff it says. There’s one big one for sure and it says Bemer Petroleum Ya think a lot of businesses might not want their name next to that that particular name even if they support racing. It’s not about the pandemic, Stafford’s billboards are thriving. It’s about that name.
The bus still there and no stands. The renovations at a standstill over the winter and should have been ongoing. The atmosphere different sans the old stands. OK so what’s your point? It wasn’t completed but what was necessary to have races was.
Turning over the special SK races to the Racing Guys not a long term solution it says. Ignoring the fact it seems silly calling the management incompetent and when it turns over something to people that are competent that’s bad as well. Ignoring that there’s the reality that there is nothing about the owner that is long term with possible prison in his future. Not to mention advancing age, possible health issues, constant legal dramas both civil and criminal. Long term indeed. Good luck with that.
I agree with the guy that says appreciate what you have. Bring cash to the track, pack a goodie bag, bring a flask if you favor an adult beverage, sit in the part of the stands where the PA system is working, make sure you take care of your number 2’s before leaving for the track and watch some pretty good racing. Racing starts with race cars. At least the management has done something right there.
Those stands, the paved area and environmental work may not have the flavor of days past but without it you wouldn’t be seeing any racing to complain about.
The plane you’re flying may be unconventional and have issues but at least it flies.

they keep blocking my posts . I WILL say if you don’t have an open working number on your website that’s beyond unacceptable. the vending issue could be solved with a couple phone calls.. still no response to my question about additional /possible zoning etc with the town that might be holding up the remaining promised improvements ? it was a legit question posed to sean and dareal who know everything ! .. oh well one last try!!. PS by the way dareal you have the most to say about a track you say is on life support. thanks for bringing the heat to the track. good or bad its press !!! LOL can always count on you !! my prediction for riverhead. a riverhead regular will win the event !!!

  76. Will you #BowlAnon’ers please read the message from Sid?

  77. Da Real Turn Four Rocks,
There are rules here. You’re not going to come on here and make remarks about people referring to them as having any sort of life threatening diseases.

  78. “Hey, who is Cory DiMatteo?”

He’s normally been a Stafford guy in the past and an SK feature winner there. From the Plainville area, he and his brother came up through Legends and SK Lights. Nice guy and a clean driver.

  79. da real turn four rocks, well you are most welcome. Many others complain about the attention the ‘bowl gets. So refreshing to see you appreciate the attention the ‘bowl gets.

Now go read the recent review of opening night from Sid. All your questions are answered there.

  80. The Atomic Punk says

I’ll say it again…. Who does not love a good farmers market?

  81. Earl, have you read Sid’s review of opening night yet? Sid’s review of opening night is to you what garlic 🧄 and oak stakes are to vampires.
