Action will be at a premium Saturday September 4th at Riverhead Raceway as track owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz have lined up eight feature events for the night’s NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series program including the annual Cromarty Wall of Champions inductions. With children on Long Island slated to return to school the following week what better way to send them into a new academic year then with a bang provided by a School Bus Demolition Derby that concludes the action packed show.
The School Bus Demolition Derby was originally set for August 21st however right after the Figure Eight feature a mini monsoon of rain swept over the track courtesy of Henri putting a abrupt end to the show after five events. Track management then made the decision to move the event to the holiday weekend so the kids have one more thrill before going back to class. “Kevo” Kevin Rommeney of Levittown won the first School Bus Demolition Derby of the year in his North Fork Sanitation bus in a hard hitting affair. “The Stalker” Scott Phillips of Bay Shore, “Mach Chicken” Rob Savoy of Selden, “The Punisher” Paul Fox of Riverhead and “Shortround” Chris Lescenski of Riverhead will be among those trying to top Kevin Rommeney Saturday.
Of the five NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series classes in action two will be completing their three race Miller Lite Triple Crown Series Saturday. The Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds will go 40-laps with time trial qualifying to determine the 2021 MLTCS champion. After two races Richie Davidowitz of East Moriches leads Sean Glennon of Northport by 13-markers for the Miller Lite Triple Crown Series title, Mark Stewart of Riverhead sits third 19 back. Going into August 28th action Davidowitz was leading Owen Grennan of Glen Cove for the overall track championship by 13 as Richie looks to go back to back in titles.
Blunderbusts also go to post in the finale for the Miller Lite Triple Crown Series with a 30-lap, time trial event on tap. Max Handley of Medford who won his fourth race of ’21 on during the Back To School event last Wednesday evening leads the MLTCS rankings by 13 over Tom Sullivan of Massapequa with Brandon Hubbard of Mastic third just 14 back of Handley. Cody Triola of Bay Shore is the overall track championship leader but is sitting fourth in the Miller Lite Triple Crown Series 19 out of the lead.
With just three Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modified events left including Saturday night Kyle Soper of Manorville enjoys a comfortable leading both the track and New York State AAPWS championship standings as he seeks his third Riverhead Raceway title in four years for car owners Wayne & Joette Anderson. The “Mod Squad will go 50-laps Saturday night. The Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars are slated for 20-lap main events while the Vintage All Stars race 15-laps. An 8-Cylinder Enduro will also be presented with the race distance to be determined based upon entries on race day.
Prior to racing during opening ceremonies Dan Jivanelli of Southampton, Jack Orlando of Calverton and Frederick “Spider” Ligon of Riverhead will take their rightful place on the Cromarty Wall of Champions in the third turn midway.
General admission for adults is $30, kids 6-12 $10 with five and under free. Tickets are sold at the track on race day only. Pits admission is $36 with a NASCAR/INEX License, $56 without a license. Riverheadraceway.Tv will carry a live stream that starts 15 minutes before qualifying.
