The pairing of Chase Dowling and the Ben Dodge owned Start/Finish Motorsports team has proved to be a potent combination since late last year in Tour Type Modified events at Stafford Speedway.

Saturday they took their magic on the road.

Dowling, of Roxbury, scored victory in the 100-lap Tri-Track Open Modified Series event Saturday at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.

Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. was second and Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. third. Dowling held off Hirschman and Bonsignore in a green-white-checkered finish.

It was Dowling’s second victory in the last five Tri-Track Open Modified Series events dating back to the season ending event for the division last October at Stafford Speedway.

Dowling has also won two of the three Open Modified events this season at Stafford.

Dowling took the lead on lap 55 and never trailed again.

Ronnie Williams of Tolland was fourth and Brian Robie of Sunapee, N.H. fifth.

26 cars for tri track is pretty bad. But not as bad as 14 at Thompson.

  2. Nice day. I’m sure everyone has been out enjoying it perhaps barbecuing in the back year but the noticeable drop in commentary on a big event is striking. So what did I think about it. Couldn’t tell you didn’t see it.
So what is going on with Speed51 with regard to their schedule.
Monadnock was scheduled to be offered as part of the subscriber package and was pulled. Open Wheeled Wednesday was originally streamed but now it’s rescheduled it’s been pulled as well. Haunted Hundred still listed but on a “TBA” basis. The only tour modified race being offered in the subscriber package is the MRS race at Star on September 19th. Meanwhile if you like Super Late Models being a subscriber with Speed51 is a great deal for sure with all the coverage they get.
The way Tri Track does it each track is calling the shots on streaming so it’s either Monadnock scratching the event or Speed51 deciding it’s not worth it for them. In any event it’s sketchy because as subscribers we sign up for the schedule and if it’s not accurate we can’t trust Speed51.
Michaud and Mayberry have it right with their Thompson shows in my view just make it pay-per-view and at the same price as a ticket at the track. Don’t give me an impossibly good deal make me pay for it on a race by race basis, charge more and it’s fine with me. Just don’t say you’re going to do something then don’t.
Aside from not getting to watch this race this is a set back for streaming access to modified events after unprecedented expansion. Does it mean it hasn’t been profitable or did Monadnock simply want to give their new stands a chance to get filled? That’s the thing about streaming races you just never know how successful it’s been or if it’s a failed experiment that will fade as potential viewers say no thanks. The only way we as consumers of the product can tell how it’s doing is to see if they continue to do it and pulling races that were promised is not a good sign.
I’m disappointed I didn’t get to see that race for sure but it’s bigger then that. It means the product doesn’t have the strength to warrant the effort and that’s bad for tour modified race fans everywhere.
Before a lot of folks in southern New England were engaged seeing the race, paid a price for the streaming service, had opinions about it afterward and I thought the Tri Track product was expanding it’s base. Apparently that is not the case.

According to a Facebook post Doug, the Mad dog race was not streamed due to staffing issues, dont know what that means but also said that both Seekonk races are scheduled to be streamed, we shall see.
Cmom 2020 only the WMT has short fields!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Chase Dowling and Ben Dodge are scalding hot! Seekonk up next with 10k n the line!

  5. Thanks Wmass. They streamed 5 events yesterday with Oxford Plains in the region and Monadnock doesn’t make the cut. I’d be interested on the source of the staffing comment.
    I hope you’re right.

  6. I think Speed51 decided to cover the PASS race instead of the Tri track race probably due to staffing issues. Once the PASS race moved from Sunday to Saturday night the Tri Track race was removed from the schedule. I go month to month on Speed51 and was planning on renewing Saturday for the Tri Track race but didn’t once I noticed it wasn’t going to be covered. Thank you to whoever posted that on these forums. You saved me a few bucks and some disappointment. I probably would have renewed without checking to make sure Tri Track race was covered as all of them had been. Anyway, I had a couple of big Dirt races already paid for and it is tough watching 3 streamed races being simulcasted at the same time. Oh I have done it but keeping track of everything going on i Like you speculated, Its tough to comment on something you haven’t seen. I was told there was a lot of cautions and only 26 cars. That’s pretty much all I know about this one..

Definitely a shorter field than expected. All the tour type mod drivers must be getting their car ready for Beechridge next week? Perhaps the tire shortage. Who knows why. Actually its been pretty busy for tour type Mods. Thompson last Wed. Monadnock Saturday Stafford and Beechridge this Friday and Saturday. Then Seekonk next Wednesday. That is potentially 5 races in two weeks . Doesn’t Chase run the tour type opens at Stafford with Ben Dodge, did he pull out of that as well as the SK at Stafford? Anyone know if Woody will be in the SK at Stafford this Friday. He should be there with the Mertz tour type running the open.

First TriTrack race I’ve been to in a while that did not have a consi. Maybe there’s a few teams affected by the economics of running a racecar, as there were teams I figured would be there that weren’t. Even the Sportsman Modifieds were 10 cars instead of the usual 14-18. Despite that, it was a really good race. The early leaders appeared to be trying to lap as many cars a possible, but the cautions changed that up quite a bit. Then there were the cars that pitted later than most making their late race charge to try an pass the cars that pitted earlier. Good racing all around the track.

Meanwhile, up the road in NH at Mount Washington it was Climb to the Clouds weekend. There was a full entry list of competitors, the starting area and mountain were packed on Sunday with more people than any northern NE short track has seen this year, under near perfect weather conditions Pistrana obliterated the previous record with a 5:28.7 minute run in his VT Sports Car built Subaru, and it pays $0 to win. Other forms of motorsports are doing well in New England this summer. It was an awesome day there yesterday.

  9. I attended and had an enjoyable time, but I counted 24 starters. Whether the final list was 24 or 26, everyone was safe to be in the feature. It changes the dynamic of the whole event. Guys seem to be sand-bagging in the heats to save tires; no consi, and not the kind of pressure that normally makes for good “pre-feature” racing. I’m still scratching me head trying to figure out how Chris Pasteryak finished in the top 10. He had a hot race car, but ended up being launched on top of the 99 around lap 50, and (after clawing his way near the front) he ended up driving with the underside facing the front-stretch wall as he got squeezed up high (with the drivers side facing down). I too was surprised when we didn’t see Speed-51 there to stream the event.
