Richie Coy Takes Claremont NEMA Lites Victory

(Press Release from Northeastern Midget Association)

The NEMA Lites visited the Claremont Speedway this past Saturday evening, joining a star studded roster including the Granite State Pro Stocks.  Beautiful summer weather highlighted a fantastic evening at the tricky 1/3 mile oval.

In the heat races, Mike Pernesiglio took down his first heat race win.  Kyle Valeri took down the second heat race.

When the green flag flew, Jim Santa Maria jumped out into the lead. Santa Maria, who has been so close to a victory the last two seasons, looked very strong, as he paced the field for the first nineteen laps.

Behind Santa Maria, Richie Coy was blasting through the field, and settled into second on lap four, and began to hunt down Santa Maria.  Behind Coy, PJ Stergios, points leader Jake Trainor and Randy Cabral were making their way through the field.

Coy would strike on lap nineteen and take over the lead from Santa Maria.  Quickly, Stergios and Trainor would follow.

Coy would go on to take down the victory, and was followed by Stergios, Trainor, Randy Cabral, Santa Maria, Paul Scally, Mike Pernesiglio, Kyle Valeri, Devin O’Connel and Eric Bacon.

“We unloaded fast and was fortunate to stay that way all day. We started in the back with all the fast guys and I wanted to get to the front as quick as possible. When I broke out into 2nd, Jim Santa Maria got out to a lit bit of a lead and we really weren’t catching him. I thought we were gonna run 2nd at that point. The caution came out with I think 7 to go and change the entire race. I tried the outside on the restart, but JIm did a great job of defending. I then tried the inside and got under him coming to 5 to go. Once I cleared him, I just ran as fast as I could and we were able to take down our 2nd win of the season. It’s just incredible, my guys that work on this car are the best!”, Said Coy.
