Anthony Nocella took a weekend off from his regular ride with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, but it didn’t mean the weekend would have to go without a win in a Modified for the Woburn, Mass. driver.

Nocella won the Modified Racing Series Classic 100 Sunday at Star Speedway in Epping, N.H.

Matt Swanson of Acton, Mass. was second and Donnie Lashua of Canaan, N.H.

Nocella made the decision to skip Saturday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Miller Lite 200 at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway to compete in the International SuperModified Association Star Classic Bob Webber Sr. Memorial 125.

The ISMA event ultimately was postponed to Sunday morning due to rain. Nocella finished fourth in the ISMA event, which was won by Jon McKennedy.

Ronnie Williams of Tolland and Brian Robie of Sunapee, N.H. rounded out the top-five respectively in the 26-car field for the Modified Racing Series at Star.

  1. NH MOD CHASER says

Really good car count for a series people are saying is dead 🤔

  2. Nerfbarsmurf says

I’ll have to watch the replay on speed 51.Good racing on that bullring.

  3. Great race! Swanson in command for most of it, looked like williams was going after it but he faded some at the end. Nocella has run a lot at star, was running good early in his heat then dropped back, probably saving tires for the race. And man did it work! Particularly for all the late race restarts, I think there were 4 of them with less than 10 to go.

  4. It was a good race with a strong field, really encouraging for the series, hopefully they can carry some of that momentum forward. They are racing again this Saturday at Claremont.

  5. About as surgical a race by Nocella as one could hope for. You knew the race would likely be won by Swanson, the 25 or Nocella but the 92 was back in 10 while Swanson and Williams were cruising at the front. The 25 was so dominant at Thompson but it didn’t translate to Star at least not enough. In the end Nocella just ate up the guys in the front then checked out at least would have were it not for the cautions.
Sparse crowd was a shame the day was so magnificent but going up against football is never a desirable time slot.
Did I hear that right. Claremont legend and NEAR HOF inductee Dwight Jarvis may be racing next week in the MRS race at Claremont. With Jerry Pearl, Mike Christopher Sr, Bo Gunning, Flemke Jr coming out of retirement to race this is definitely the year of the geezer.

  6. I wouldn’t get too excited. Star had a huge field last year as well. It’s more of a Star thing than a MRS thing. MRS will resume their twelve car fields moving forward.

I did find it interesting that the 3 team brought the tour car. They usually bring the Tri Track car to Star.

  7. What happened to m Kennedy? Can’t find a run down from star?

  8. McKennedy didn’t run the MRS, only ran ISMA.
