Eric Berndt Tops SK Modifieds In Speedbowl Blastoff Event

The feel good feeling of a winter of waiting for a new team to get its start got even better Saturday for SK Modified veteran Eric Berndt.

Berndt and the first year Ferguson Motorsports team made their debut together one to remember Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Berndt led 70 circuits on the way to victory in the 71-lap SK Modified feature at the Speedbowl’s 2022 Blastoff event Saturday.

It was the 18th SK Modified feature victory at the Speedbowl for Berndt, of Cromwell.

Rob Janovic Jr. of Waterford was second and reigning Speedbowl SK Modified champion Todd Owen was third.

Mike Christopher Jr. of Wolcott and Andrew Molleur of Shelton rounded out the top-five respectively.

Jason Palmer of Berlin topped the field in the 30-lap Late Model feature. Ryan Morgan of North Franklin was second and Ray Christian III of Uncasville third.

Tom Abele Jr. of Norwich won the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature. Mark Panaroni of Ivoryton topped the field in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. Chris Taylor of East Lyme won the 25-lap Truck feature. Brody Monahan of Waterford won the 25-lap Legends feature. Shawn Gaedeke of Groton was victorious in the 25-lap Street Stock feature.

    Was a good afternoon of racing. Smaller crowd till festure time and heat hurt attendees I am sure..
    Good food and lots of happy people for being at the races again. Wednesday start this week and looks like nice weather for next weekend. See you there.

    I like the earlier starts…nice to leave a track before 9pm most Saturdays. Great racing as always, especially in the Late Models. A truck almost went over the wall through the fence just like last year’s ski crash….yikes. Weather was perfect with the ocean breeze.
