It’s a big week for Woody Pitkat, and he kicked off the right way Sunday in Epping, N.H.

The Modified veteran heads to Stafford Speedway Saturday looking to keep streaking his way to a $15,000 payday in the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series NAPA Fall Final 80 at the historic half-mile. Pitkat has won the last three Tour Type Modified events at Stafford.

Sunday he built even more winning momentum to carry to Stafford.

Pitkat, of Stafford, won the rain-shortened Modified Racing Series feature at the Star Classic at Star Speedway Sunday.

The race, which was scheduled for 100 laps, was stopped after 60 laps because of rain.

“I started fourth and the weather didn’t look really good,” Pitkat told RaceDayCT. “It was looking like it was going to rain, so I kind of just tried to get to the lead and pace myself. I feel like I probably went a little too hard than I needed to in the heat race but it was probably a good thing because then I started up front. I figured Nocella and Swanson would have been coming.”

Kirk Alexander of West Swanzey, N.H. was second and Anthony Nocella of Woburn, Mass. third.

The victory marked the first in the series for team owner Doug Dunleavy.

“It was nice to come out here today and finish on a positive note,” said Pitkat, the 2015 Modified Racing Series champion. “I feel like [Star Speedway owner] Bobby Webber and what they’ve got going on here is really good. And it’s nice to support the [Modified Racing Series]. They had a good car count for the show. It was a good deal.”

Matt Swanson of Acton, Mass. was fourth and Jacob Perry of Pawcatuck fifth.
