Celebrating SK Modified championships is becoming pretty commonplace for Todd Owen.

Last month Owen, of Somers, clinched his second consecutive SK Modified championship at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Sunday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl Owen kept that theme of consecutive titles rolling.

Owen used a third place finish in the 60-lap SK Modified feature Sunday at the Speedbowl Finale to clinch his second consecutive title in the division at the Speedbowl.

The Speedbowl Finale closed with a new face in victory lane for the main event of the weekend.

Stephen Kopcik of Newtown ran away with victory in the SK Modified feature Sunday.

It was the first career SK Modified victory at the Speedbowl, for Kopcik. Jeff Malave of Manchester was second.

Ryan Morgan of North Franklin topped the 50-lap Late Model feature. Ray Christian III of Uncasville finished ninth to clinch his first Speedbowl Late Model championship.

Sami Anderson of Wolcott scored her first career SK Light Modified win at the Speedbowl in the division’s 25-lap feature. Tom Abele Jr. of Norwich was sixth and clinched his first championship in the division.

Sam Mesick of East Lyme won the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. Charles Canfield of East Haven was second and clinched the division’s 2022 championship.

Any early indications whether Sean Foster will return as Bowl GM in 2023?

  2. Longtimefan says

Todd Owen has quietly established himself as a proven super star in modified racing.

  3. Rafter Fan,
I think that’s a question that only Sean Foster or the track owner can answer at this point.

  4. Stuart A Fearn says

why wouldn’t Sean Foster return is the only question?
Looking from my sofa I’d say Sean has had success running the rest of the year after he took the wheel at the bowl. My guess is it can only get better from here.
The best thing to do is to make an announcement early so people can make plans and make decisions. We will have to see what materializes.

Cool to see Sami win today. She’s come a long way since wrecking almost weekly. Ethan was not happy about the way she raced him though. Two surprises in the sk race. One was Kopcik winning. The other was Malave’s second place finish. That car hasn’t been that quick until today. Been a while since he’s been competitive.
