Joe Gibbs Racing Co-Owner Coy Gibbs Passes

Joe Gibbs Racing management announced Sunday afternoon that Coy Gibbs has passed away. 

Gibbs was 49 years old. 

The statement from Joe Gibbs Racing read: “It is with great sorrow that Joe Gibbs Racing confirms that Coy Gibbs (co-owner) went to be with the Lord in his sleep last night. The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers and asks for privacy at this time.”

Gibbs was the vice-chairman and chief operating officer of Joe Gibbs Racing. He is the son of Joe Gibbs Racing founder and NASCAR and NFL Hall of Fame Joe Gibbs. 

Coy Gibbs is the father of 20-year old Ty Gibbs, who clinched his first NASCAR Xfinity Series championship on Saturday at Phoenix Raceway. 

Sunday morning it was announced that Ty Gibbs would not race in today’s Cup Series championship event. He was scheduled to run for 23XI racing in the event. Daniel Hemric will take over the ride. 

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell is one of the Championship 4 drivers today at Phoenix vying for the 2022 Cup Series championship. 

Coy Gibbs is a former driver and also former NFL assistant with the Washington Commanders. He was also a linebacker at Stanford University. Coy Gibbs competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series from 2000-2002. He finished 10th in the series standings in 2001 and 2002. 

Coy Gibbs is the second son of Joe Gibbs to pass away. JD Gibbs passed away in 2019 at 49 years after a long battle with a degenerative neurological disorder.

    The comments on other social media shows how much Joe Gibbs Racing is despised, and that some people do not hesitate to show it.

    Reminds me of when Trump announced his search for a new Supreme Court Justice. None of the Justices had passed, Ruth Bader Ginsburg went into the hospital and Trump announced his search for a new Supreme Court Justice. That was pure vicious.
