NASCAR Cup Series regular William Byron topped the field in the the 35-lap Super Late Model feature to kick off the Monday racing card at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway.

“The car was really good,” Byron said. “Thanks to all these guys on the Wilson Motorsports Team. The car was awesome. Really the first practice I thought we were good. We had newer tires then everybody else, so we had some work to do to kind of get a good general balance. But I felt like I figured some things out in the second practice that helped me and we got the car a little bit better too.”

William Sawalich was second and Casey Roderick third.

Giovanni Ruggiero of Seekonk, Mass was fourth and Derek Griffith of Hudson, N.H. was seventh.

On Sunday Trevor Catalano won the 602 Modified division feature in a photo finish. Monday he made it two in a row, with a little breathing room.

Catalano led from the start to finish to win the 25-lap 602 Modified feature.

“I don’t really know what to think,” Catalano said. “This is awesome for my first time here racing and I’ve never run a 602 [Modified]. We brought a good car right from the trailer. We haven’t made many adjustments and it’s been lightning fast.”

Ricky Collins was second and Andrew Lewis third.

Catalano checked out from Collins on a late restart.

“I really didn’t know if I wanted the top or the bottom on the [final] restart,” Catalano said. “The bottom is where I won last night, but I knew it was hard to keep it down there. … We were a little free so I figured we’d go to the top and hope that we didn’t get ran up too high. He raced us clean. He did what he had to do to try to get by, but thankfully we were able to hang on.”
