Todd Owen Tops SK Modifieds At New London-Waterford Speedbowl

Todd Owen’s hunt for a third consecutive SK Modified championship at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl got a positive burst of energy on Saturday. 

Owen, of Somers, topped the field in the 35-lap SK Modified feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. 

It was the fourth victory at Waterford for Owen this season and his 19th win overall in the division. 

Anthony Flannery of East Hampton was second and Paul Buzel of Trumbull was third.

Owen holds a 15-point advantage over Eric Berndt at the top of the Speedbowl SK Modified standings. Flannery sits third in the division standings, 36 points behind Owen. 

Owen also leads the SK Modified division standings at Stafford Speedway, where he is also looking for a third consecutive SK Modified championship. Owen is looking to become the first driver in Stafford Speedway history to win three consecutive titles in the division.

Evan Bourgeois of East Haddam scored his third victory of the season in the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature. 

Isaiah Newcomb of Plymouth, Mass. was second and John O’Sullivan of Salem third. 

Brody Monahan of Waterford won the 30-lap Late Model feature. Corey Fanning of Mapleville, R.I. was second and Glen Thomas Jr. of West Bridgewater, Mass. was third. 

Charles Beal of Ledyard led the way in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. John Bavolacco of Stratford was second and Christopher Garside of Groton third.

Isaiah Newcomb of Plymouth, Mass won the first 25-lap Legends race. Riley Paul of Ledyard was second and Brad Vanhouten of Wading River, N.Y. third.

Dylan Cote of Griswold was victorious in the second 25-lap Legends feature. Newcomb was second and Vanhouten third.

    Nice win for Brody in memory of his grandfather. Did Berndts spotter fall asleep? Flannery was not happy. Nice comeback for them both though.
