STAFFORD – Kyle Theriault held off the late charges of Rich Hammann, twice, to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.

It was the first career victory in the division for Theriault, of Three Rivers, Mass. Theriault was making his seventh start.

“I didn’t think this would ever happen so fast,” Theriault said. “Man, I just drove my butt off. I don’t know really what else to say. [Hammann] gave me a shot, but that’s what racing is. I don’t even know what else to say.”

Hammann, of Tolland, was second and R.J. Surdell of Willington third.

On lap 20 Theriault got a tap from Hammann in turn two and briefly got sideways. Theriault saved the car from spinning and stayed ahead of Hammann, but caution flew before the lap was completed to set up a green-white-checkered restart.

On the restart Hammann stayed to Theriault’s outside. The pair came off turn four side-by-side to the white flag. Hammann held the outside lane for the final lap, but Theriault was up to the task out front and held off Hammann off of turn four heading to the checkered.

“I think we could have got him in another lap, but that’s alright,” Hammann said. “We’re all teammates. I’m not going to dump my teammate.”

Tyler Trott of East Hartford scored victory in the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Jonathan Avery of North Windham was second and Travis Downey of Barkhamstead third.
