VOTE HERE – RaceDayCT Poll: Which Winning Driver Had The Best Dramatic Storyline Friday At Stafford
STAFFORD – April 28 will be remembered at Stafford Speedway for being the day that many waited and waited and waited for the NAPA Spring Sizzler to happen.
When the rain arrived at Stafford on April 28 it happened with the SK Light Modified division having had completed eight laps of a scheduled 20-lap feature.
The race was put on hold with Tyler Chapman out front.
On Friday Chapman finally got the chance to finish the job.
With race restarted on lap nine, Chapman led every circuit on the way to victory in the 20-lap feature.
It was the second win of the season for Chapman, of Ellington, who also won on the opening Friday night of the season on May 10.
“I don’t think I could ask for anymore than what this car and my crew has give me this year so far,” Chapman said. “This is one of the best starts we’ve ever had. We definitely had to wait to win this one. I think it took three weeks to win this one. Longest race I think I’ll ever race in my life.”
Brian Sullivan of Tolland was second and Chris Matthews of Stafford third.
Chapman kept his perfect streak alive to end the night. Chapman passed Matthews off of turn two on the final lap to win the regularly scheduled 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.
“All I can say is My Three Sons is one of the best teams you can be on,” Chapman said. “It’s a movement, that’s what we’re going to call it.”
Matthews held on for second and Sullivan was third.
For the second consecutive week it was reigning Late Model champion Kevin Gambacorta celebrating victory in the division’s 30-lap feature.
Paul Varricchio of Berlin was second and Chris Meyer of North Franklin third.
