Mike Christopher Jr. will get to add to a new track to his racing resume on Sunday in Epping, N.H.
Christopher, of Wolcott, has been added to the entry list for the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series RaceChoice.com 125 at Star Speedway on Sunday.
Christopher will drive the Justin Albernaz owned No. 07 for the event, filling in for regular driver Kyle Bonsignore who has a family commitment.
“New race track, new team, one off deal, Sunday race,” Christopher said,. “It all sounds like fun to me.”
Christopher is competing in the event with support from former Modified team owner Kevin Stuart, owner of Stuart’s Automotive.
“I’ve never been there, so that’s one thing,” Christopher said. “I feel like I’ll adapt to it fine. I’m pretty excited because the 07 has been a good car this year. Justin Albernaz has been hot lately and really learning the cars. I know he’s learned a lot from [Ryan] Stone. Obviously the car has been good.”
Bonsignore has started three of the four Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series events this year for the Albernaz owned team. He had second place finishes at Seekonk Speedway (Jun e 26) and the New London-Waterford Speedbowl (Aug. 10) and a ninth place at White Mountain Motorsports Park (July 27)
Christopher understands he’ll have to bring a different mindset to the quarter-mile Star Speedway than the one he brings to his SK Modified at the half-mile Stafford oval every Friday.
“I’ll try to adapt to the track as quick as I can and see how the race plays out,” Christopher said. “It’s a one-tire race so that’s pretty standard for all the Tri-Track stuff. I feel like it’s pretty similar to Riverhead where … you can’t drive it in too hard. You can’t overdrive it. Obviously that’s different from Stafford [Speedway] and my normal thing.”
