Andrew Molleur had himself a weekend when it came to SK Modified racing in Southern New England.
Friday the 21-year old from Shelton captured his first SK Modified championship at Stafford Speedway.
Molleur followed that up by winning the 35-lap SK Modified feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
It was the second victory of the season for Molleur at the Speedbowl.
Eric Berndt of Cromwell was second and Todd Owen of Somers third.
Division points leader Anthony Flannery was fifth. He saw his lead over Molleur at the top of the standings shrink from 13 points to seven points with one event remaining. The SK Modified division closes out its season at the Speedbowl with a 100-lap feature on Oct. 20. Owen, who has won the the last three SK Modified division championships at the Speedbowl, sits third in the standings, 17 points behind Flannery.
It was a big Late Model win that got Jason Palmer to an even bigger win total at Speedbowl.
Palmer, of Berlin, won the 30-lap Late Model feature. It was the 107th career victory at the Speedbowl for Palmer, tying him with Phil Rondeau for second place on the track’s all-time win list. Keith Rocco leads the track’s all-time win list with 154 victories.
It was Palmer’s seventh win of the season and his 54th career Late Model victory overall. He also has 53 Legends division victories at the Speedbowl. Palmer, who has Late Model championships at the Speedbowl in 2015, 2020, 2021 and 2023, currently lead the division standings.
Corey Fanning of Mapleville, R.I. was second and Ray Christian III of Uncasville was third in Saturday’s Late Model feature.
Al Stone III extended his record win total at the track by scoring victory in the 25-al Street Stock feature. The fourth win of the season for Stone was all-time track leading 68th career Street Stock win at the shoreline oval.
Shawn Gaedeke of Groton was second in the Street Stock feature and Jordan Hadley of Quaker Hill was third.
Evan Bourgeois of East Haddam recorded his third win of the season in the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature to extend his lead at the top of the division’s standings. Bourgeois takes a 24-point lead over Tyler Barry and a 26-point advantage over third place John O’Sullivan into the final event of the season.
Charles Canfield of East Haven won for the fourth time this season in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature.
Chris Garside of Groton was second and John Bavolacco of Stratford third.
Austin Long of Waterford topped the 25-lap Truck feature. Brad Strickland of Uncasville was second and Jake Coutu of Moosup third.

I gather that Timmy Jordan did not race at the Bowl this week, after he was black flagged Saturday night (while leading, after an incident with a car he was about to lap that took out 2nd place runner Andrew Molleur). RaceDayCT has apparently taken a couple of shots at Bowl management (whoever that may be) on X/Twitter related to the black flag decision and their non-reaction to Jordan’s absence Saturday night.
Watching the Jordan incident live, it appeared that the 47 got into the left rear of the soon-to-be-lapped car. Like many, I had hoped/expected the slower car to “get out of way” of the Jordan/Molleur battle. However, it didn’t and Jordan (surprised?) seemed to misjudge his attempted pass.
Perhaps the slower car’s spotter and/or the Bowl’s flag man failed to alert the driver to the approaching leaders. Regardless, should Jordan have been absolved of all responsibility for the wreck?
I like Timmy Jordan and hope to see him racing at the Bowl in a couple of weeks. And, I understand that Bowl management/Bemer has been the deserving target of critics for years. But, I not yet convinced that the Jordan black flag decision was blatantly wrong.
Rafter Fan,
I don’t think the question was whether or not Jordan or the lapped car was at fault for the contact. And to my knowledge, the contact was not deemed to be worthy of a penalty for either driver. Timmy Jordan wasn’t black flagged for the contact with the lapped the car. The question that was raised was why was Jordan sent to the rear of the field as a caution car when he wasn’t part of what ultimately brought out the caution and he continued forward progress throughout the incident that did bring out the caution. I’m no race director, but I’ve seen a lot of races and I saw no reason why Jordan should have been put to the rear of the field as a caution car. Jordan nudged the pace car AFTER he was told by officials that he had to go to the rear for being a caution car. It was after he nudged the pace car that he was black flagged and parked.
What is up with the hack in the truck division hitting everything but the lottery?? Takes out the points leader every chance he gets. He bought arguably the fastest truck at Waterford, yet cannot run nearly as good as the previous owner, and is involved in an incident in almost every race… Sad, a one man wrecking ball is ruining a great division.
What a wild night at the speedbowl. Another crazy incident between Chapman and Beal. Another photo finish in the mini stocks. The points battles are going to be intense in a few divisions at the finale. Decent field of sk’s. Rocco getting faster and may be a contender for the big one. The finale weekend is shaping up to be an awesome event. $5500 to win should get a big turnout. 17 different divisions. Can’t wait. But first the epic world series.
