Where Are They Now?: Catching Up With Sean Foster

It’s the question many around the southern New England racing scene have been asking for the last few months.

What happened to Sean Foster?

Foster, a former Stafford Speedway champion and short track racing web producer, served as the general manager of the New London-Waterford Speedbowl from July of 2022 through the end of the 2023 season at the shoreline oval.

Foster parted ways with the Speedbowl in late October of 2023 feeling like he hadn’t got the opportunity to put in place the real plans he had for improvement at the track.

“What I didn’t have the time to do in the time given was get to the creative part,” Foster said. “I spent a lot of time there … just on the foundational stuff, just kind of getting everything situated in a certain way and organized and we didn’t get to a point of doing the creative stuff and in my opinion that’s what I’m best at. That’s the biggest shame of it all probably and that’s kind of where I felt like I went and drove down this road and then it was just a dead end.”

So listen in to get the low-down on where life has taken Mr. Short Track Racer.

    “About
    What makes me tick:
I’m the creative-imaginative type. The type of person who thinks up a new idea every day. They’re not all winners but daydreaming innovative ideas gives me a weird high.

    My recent life:
I recently relocated to Florida to be in close proximity to the auto racing & entertainment industries. Since moving here I’ve surrounded myself with like-minded business entrepreneurs and immersed myself within the Chamber of Commerce, Volusia Young Professionals Group, and 1 Million Cups. Not to mention Florida is an ideal place to ride motorcycles and embrace my embarrassing golf game.

    My goals:
I enjoy being in the business of people. More specifically, entertaining people. My long range timeline goal is to create an uplifting, community-like entertainment escape that fuels people’s passion and legitimizes their competitive nature.

    My greatest accomplishment:
My last endeavor at Waterford Speedbowl really put my management abilities to the test. I was in a position to create a vision & goals, lead a team, and manage conflict. In only 1.5 seasons participation numbers grew (+7.4%) and new events with massive turnouts created a spark throughout the New England racing scene. The praise I received from the auto racing community, especially at the end of my tenure, was an overly accomplished feeling.

    My proven strengths & skills:
Industries I’ve professionally worked in include construction development, manufacturing, digital media marketing & design, and entertainment. I’ve diversified myself quite a bit and have project management experience in all these industries. Having worked in these realms for so long I have developed a deep understanding of intricacies involved in delivering projects with strict timelines and budgets.

The most significant lessons I’ve learned:
    -Narrow the focus.
-Share the vision with the team. Find ways to inspire them. Motivate and boost morale with praise.
-Be visible and intertwined within the community.
-Always be networking and providing value.
    -Embrace failure. Learn from mistakes.

    What I’m seeking:
My past experiences will springboard me to my next venture. I would love to connect with anybody who knows of opportunities in project management, especially in the entertainment industry. I enjoy meeting like-minded people. Connect with me if you have thoughts on progressing the sport of auto racing or building communities and entertainment escapes.”
