Exclusive: Ron Silk Reveals Plans For Haydt-Yannone Racing In 2025

It seems that since the end of the 2024 season on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour the rumors concerning the status and plans of the Haydt-Yannone Racing team with driver Ron Silk have been the overwhelming talk of the Modified racing scene around the Northeast.

The last two seasons on the Whelen Modified Tour have seen Silk and Justin Bonsignore in a fierce battle at the top of the standings all season long and in some fierce battles on the track. Silk won the series title in 2023 and Bonsignore topped the standings in 2024.

So the question many have had is would that championship battle happen again in 2025?

We talked with Ron Silk today and he let us know exactly what the plans are.

“I don’t care what they say really,” Silk said of rumors that swirl about the Haydt-Yannone Racing team. “I hear the rumors too, I don’t get out to try to stop them so maybe that’s my fault to a certain degree. But really what goes on outside of our team I’m not very concerned about.”

  1. That team are the smartest guys in the room right now. They have an ambitious schedule planned, all close to home except for speed week. I doubt they’ll be the last team to do this. NASCAR is driving teams away with these mid week long distance shows. How many teams run the whole tour is yet to be seen, but I’d say around a dozen. They are counting on the local teams to up the car counts, and not many can honestly compete for a win against the full time paid teams, Time will tell, but I’m not wasting my hard earned money to watch a 100 lap heat race.,

  2. In 2003 the year before the MRS was formed and the Tour had no real competition 16 teams participated in at least 17 of the 18 events run. 97 different drivers were awarded points and of that number 29 participated in only one event.

In 2024 with withering competition from MMTTS, MRS, SMART and other tour modified open races 12 teams raced in at least 15 of the 16 events. A total of 63 teams raced in at least one event and of that number 10 raced in just one event.

In 2024 11 teams raced in at least 7 of only 8 events. A total of 74 teams participated in at least one event and of that number 33 teams participated in only one event

Frankly I just don’t see the mass exodus from the Tour to the MMTTS that seems to be a popular narrative in this forum. In fact considering the sea changes that have taken place in the landscape of tour modified racing providing teams with more events then ever to select from the NWMT is holding their own quite well. The issue not trying to get more teams to compete in every event, something that wasn’t happening in large numbers even before everything changed but to get more teams to run more events regardless if they are full time or not. This year that is being addressed and we won’t know until next year if it had any real impact.

  3. In my previous post, data point three pertains to the MMTTS.
