Bob Horn, part of the fabric of the Southern New England Modified racing scene for parts of seven decades, passed on Monday.
Horn, of Norwalk, began his racing career just out of high school in the 1960’s as a car builder and team owner at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. He also drove his own Modifieds at the Speedbowl and moved on to compete at the former Danbury Racearena. He returned to the Speedbowl after the Racearena closed in 1981.
Over the years Horn fielded cars as a team owner for some of the most recognizable names in Modified racing. And when he wasn’t fielding his own cars, Horn was seemingly always helping other teams in Modified racing.
Some of the drivers that have competed for Horn in the last few decades include Ron Silk, Matt Hirschman, Eddy Spiers, Keith Rocco, Noah Korner, Austin Beers, Sam Rameau and Anthony Bello.

Sorry to hear about this, his cars were always a threat to win regardless of who was behind the wheel. Condolences to the family.
Bob was an approximately 18 year old owner of my Dad’s Championship car in 1968 and 1969.My memories of his accomplishments and all he did for others will stay with me forever! R.I.P. Warrior
God bless Bob. I enjoyed watching Silk in his rides.
Bob was the modern day Len boehler ! It was always a pleasure wrenching for him and an honor to call him my friend!!
I remember those blue & gold #85 gremlin and Vega ‘bodied modifieds he ran down at the now extinct Danbury Fair Race Areana back in the late 70’s when he belonged to the SNYRA , . Sometimes you might see him up at Plainville or at Thompson tying to qualify for the 300 ,(Seems like yesterday) RIP my friend ,
Always a good friend & racer won be forgotten
Condolences to Bob’s family and friends. He always fielded competitive cars, that were always immaculately prepared, and wasn’t afraid to spend the money needed to field a great ride.
