THOMPSON – In most fitting fashion, Nickolas Hovey completed a wildly dominate season at Thompson Speedway Saturday by celebrating victory and a track championship.

And Hovey did it in unexpectedly dramatic fashion in a feature that was ended due to time constraints.

On a lap 27 restart John O’Sullivan got by Hovey for the lead in turn three. Hovey fought back in turn four to regain the lead just before officials threw a caution and checkered to end the event due to a crash in turn two.

“I knew every lap could have been the last so I made sure I came back to the line,” Hovey said. “We just had a great car all day.”

It was the sixth victory in seven starts this year at Thompson for Hovey. In the only race he didn’t win in 2025, Hovey finished second to Austin Goff on May 14.

Saturday’s feature was scheduled for 30 laps but needed to be stopped after 27 laps to get the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on track for qualifying.

Hovey, of Chaplin, went by O’Sullivan for the lead on lap 11 and never trailed again until the O’Sullivan momentarily got by him on the final lap.

O’Sullivan, of Salem, was second and Kevin Davis of Somers third.

Ryan Lineham of Hope Valley, R.I. topped the 20-lap Street Stock feature. George Baldwin of Lowell, Mass. was second and Aaron Plemons of Uncasville was third.

Larry Barnett used a fifth place finish to clinch his seventh Street Stock division championship at Thompson.

Rob Richardi of North Easton, Mass. won the 22-lap Harry Kourafas Memorial Pro-4 Modified feature. Kyle Valeiri won the 25-lap NEMA Lites feature. Ryan Kuhn topped the 35-lap Pro Truck Challenge.
