Virginia “Ginny” DeLuca, a voracious fan of short track racing for decades, a vibrant supporter of countless local racing teams in the region for years and the matriarch of the Petty Cash Motorsports SK Modified team at Stafford Speedway, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday.
DeLuca, of Brookfield, was 90 years old.
DeLuca was one of the owners of the Petty Cash Motorsports team along with her son, Mike Meyhoefer. Her grandson Tyler Meyhoefer manages the Petty Cash Motorsports operation.
DeLuca and her team celebrated the 2024 SK Modified championship at Stafford Speedway with driver Andrew Molleur.
DeLuca and her team fielded full-time SK Modified teams in recent years for drivers Tyler Hines, Bryan Narducci and Jimmy Blewett before Molleur joined the team priot to the 2024 season.
In addition to her efforts as a team owner, DeLuca was a longtime financial supporter/sponsor of numerous local racing teams annually across the spectrum of Connecticut short track racing and beyond. DeLuca was also a fixture at the track for years supporting her team, her drivers and her family.
“She loved racing from the Danbury Racearena to Stafford Motor Speedway to Thompson Speedway to [the New London] Waterford Speedbowl,” Mike Meyhoefer said. “And she gave so much money to help other people go racing and didn’t want anything in return. Many people didn’t even have a sticker on their car. And she loved the Lord.”
Our prayers and condolences go out to the entire DeLuca and Meyhoefer families and the Petty Cash Motorsports racing team.
