It was announced a few weeks ago that former New London-Waterford Speedbowl general manager Shawn Monahan would return to a management role with the facility in 2026. The Speedbowl will kick off their 2026 season with their Blast Off event on Saturday.
We caught up with Monahan today for an extensive conversation about his new role with the facility and lots of other things involving that role and the future of the Speedbowl.
Some of the numerous topics touched on included:
— Monahan taking on the roles of track promoter, race day operations and race director.
— Balancing his role as a business owner, owner of a North Carolina based Pro Late Model team and his role with the Speedbowl.
— The possibilities of seeing meaningful facility improvements beginning soon.
— Where things stand with the idea of returning to a working relationship with NASCAR.
— Long range plans for the track.

Great interview Shawn, I’m sure those social media kids would approve!
Remains to be seen, but, Shawn M alluded to it, the real estate worth more than the track. Even with “black cloud” as mentioned, I don’t think any race fan wants to see another track go dark, and that takes a lot of work (and some luck)
So good luck Mr Monahan, it wont be easy for sure!
