STAFFORD – An early wreck in the season opening Late Model feature at Stafford Speedway on April 25 relegated Adam Gray to a last place finish to start his season.
Friday at Stafford the Granby, Mass. driver bounced back in the best way possible.
Gray started on the pole and led every lap on the way to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.
“I mean it’s an awesome feeling, you know, these guys worked their tails off for two weeks straight getting this thing back together and to be able to get a checkered flag for the crew is awesome,” Gray said.
It was the 42nd career win in the divison for Gray, who sits third on the All-Time Late Model win list at Stafford. Tom Fearn tops the list with 65 wins. Ryan Possoco is second with 45 victories.
And the message Gray sent to the competition was that there’s still more speed to be found for him.
“The car wasn’t 100 percent,” Gray said. “We thrashed on it for two weeks after the first week and we got it pretty darn close. Get a little bit of tweaking, maybe get some brakes under it, and we’ll be pretty good.”
Kevin Gambacorta of Ellington was second and Chris Meyer of North Franklin third.
