STAFFORD – On April 25 a dejected Adam Gray finished last in the season opening Late Model event at Stafford Speedway.
Competitors in the division should probably be worried about the fire that got fueled in the Granby, Mass. veteran by that bad start to the season.
Gray bounced back from the last place by scoring victory on the opening Friday night event of the season last week.
Friday Gray started a streak.
Gray went by Paul Varricchio Jr. on lap 21 restart and never trailed again on the way to his second consecutive victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.
“It makes us try that much harder,” Gray said of the first week issue. “You know, the first week, the car was actually better than it is now. We’ve still got a couple things we’ve got to do to get it better. … I’ve got no complaints.”
It was the 43rd career win in the division for Gray, who sits third on the all-time Late Model win list at Stafford. Tom Fearn tops the list with 65 wins. Ryan Possoco is second with 45 victories.
Kevin Gambacorta of Ellington was second and Michael Bennett of Stafford third.
