Sources: Justin Bonsignore Could Be Competing In Whelen Modified Tour Event At Seekonk Speedway

Don’t count Justin Bonsignore’s name out of that championship picture just yet on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour

On April 30 Bonsignore announced that the Ken Massa owned Whelen Modified Tour team he drives for would be sitting out upcoming events at Oxford Plains Speedway (May 2) and Seekonk Speedway (May 16). Bonsignore said the team would return to action for the Miller Lite Salutes Don Howe 200 at Riverhead Raceway on May 30.

And while missing two events wouldn’t have made it mathematically impossible for Bonsignore to still win a fifth Whelen Modified Tour title, it would have made the achievement astronomically difficult.

But wait …

The May 2 event at Oxford Plains was postponed to June 6 due to rain last weekend. And now, according to sources close to the Massa owned team, the plan to skip Seekonk is likely changing.

Bonsignore was not immediately available for comment on Friday evening.

Bonsignore opened this season with a victory at New Smyrna Speedway on Feb. 7. He was seventh in the division’s most recent event on April 12 at Thompson Speedway and he currently sits fifth in the series standings, 20 points off the lead.

Bonsignore has started 243 consecutive Whelen Modified Tour events for Massa. Bonsignore’s 48 career Whelen Modified Tour wins ranks him second all-time with the series. Bonsignore won Whelen Modified Tour titles in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2023. Bonsignore has run full-time for Massa on the Whelenn Modified Tour since the start of the 2010 season.
