STAFFORD – Some might paint Robert Bloxsom III as a little over anxious.

Bloxsom had a sixth place finish in his SK Light Modified duel event on April 25 at the NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford and followed that with a seventh place finish in the next day’s main event for the division.

Friday Bloxsom, of Milford, scored his first victory of the season in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.

“It took a little too long if you ask me,” Bloxsom said. “First week we missed a little, but we took it as a learning curve, learning each other as a team.”

It was Bloxsom’s third career SK Light Modified victory at Stafford and his fifth win overall at the track. He also has two Limited Late Model victories.

“It feels good,” Bloxsom said. “A lot of confidence. That’s what we came here to do, fight for a championship. You’ve got to be there the whole season. We’ve got two top tens. One of them is a win. So it’s a good way to start.”

After winning the main event on Spring Sizzler weeked, Chris Matthews of Stafford was second Friday.

“Obviously it’s all the hard work and this awesome Chassis Pro car getting us there,” Matthews said. “Todd [Owen] and the guys, they just keep putting the work in and it shows.”

Tyler Barry of Griswold was third.

Bloxsom went from third to first on a restart, passing Cassandra Cole for the lead, with 14 laps remaining. He never trailed again. Matthews went by Barry for second with eight laps remaining.

Gary Patnode of New Hartford topped the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.

“A lot of hard work in the past two weeks,” Patnode said. “It took everything I had and everybody involved with this car to get this car back here. It was really banged up after the Sizzler weekend. Worked really hard. Double, triple checked everything on the car and it paid off. The car is on rails tonight. Really fast from practices to heat races to the feature. Winning it from the [pole] when it goes green-to-checkered, it is what it is, but you know what, we got that [checkered] flag.”

It was the 11th career victory in the division for Patnode.

Rich Hammann of Tolland was second.

“The track finally came in and it came in to our setup,” Hammann said. “I really wanted to win tonight. I wanted to win for my dad. He’s in hospice down in Florida. I didn’t know whether to go fly down there or race tonight. It was a really tough decision.”

Duane Provost of Palmer, Mass. was third.

Brandon Warren of Chicopee, Mass., bounced back from a 15th place finish in the season opening event to score his first career victory in the 20-lap Street Stock feature.

“Last week kinda sucked, but I’m happy we got the win this week,” Warren said.

Kolton Gambacorta of Ellington was second and Brent Gleason of Griswold third.
