It’s fair to say the “Getting Know You” phase has concluded between New London-Waterford Speedbowl competitors and first year race director Brad Lafontaine.
In early April it was announced that Lafontaine, a former NASCAR Modified Tour championship winning crew chief, longtime race car builder and race shop owner, would take over the duties of race director at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
With almost four months in the books in the role, we talked with Brad recently about how things are going at the track.
“I was told a lot of things,” Lafontaine said. “They’re going to teach me a lot of new swear words. They’re going tell me how bad my mother is and all that stuff. I was in the housing projects for 25 years, my first 25 years of life. And I was in auto recycling all my life, I still own an auto recycling yard. I don’t think you can teach me a lot of swear words. I think I’ve heard them all at my age. I’m just looking for respect. I respect everybody there. I try to talk to them one-on-one. If they call me or we have a talk after the races, I never avoid anybody. I’m there. That’s where I’m going. I’m hoping that we have a bunch of people behind us. We want to make the track good again or else, if it closes, it’s not coming back. We don’t need to see that.”
