THOMPSON – For decades Keith Rocco was a dominator in the Sunoco Modified (SK Modified) division at Thompson Speedway.

Even with that division removed from the track’s schedule for 2024, Rocco couldn’t be kept out of victory lane at Thompson.

Rocco topped the field in the 30-lap Sunoco 604 Modified division Thursday at Thompson Speedway.

Thursday’s event was the third Sunoco 604 Modified feature at the track. The division ran twice at the Icebreaker weekend in April.

Rocco was making his division debut Thursday driving for car owner Mike Beebe.

“I’ve got to really thank Mike and Karen Beebe, everybody that worked on this car, Brian Norman, they gave me a stout piece today and I can’t thank them enough,” Rocco said.

Rocco, of Wallingford, said the deal to drive the car came together over the last week.

“The 604 program is really different,” Rocco said. “They thought the motors was going to change it, but it’s still the same guy winning when we came back. We’ve got a shop full of SK [Modifieds] that we can’t run here and now we’re just racing against a bunch crate motors. Maybe you’ll see us back here for the next one. … I really appreciate the ride and them letting me drive this hot rod.”

Danny Cates of Chaplin was second and Jon Puleo of Branford third.
