Stafford Notes: Corey Hutchings Tops Late Models; Kyle Casagrande And Josh Wood Also Score Wins

STAFFORD – Corey Hutchings took the lead from Woody Pitkat on lap eight and then left the battles to take place behind him.

Corey Hutchings

Hutchings drove away from all challengers on the way to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the first victory of the season at Stafford for Hutchings, of Salem who is in his first season driving for car owner Barry Fluckiger.

“I’m at a loss for a words,” Hutchings said. “I’m so excited for my team, they worked so hard. I wasn’t even sure I was going to race here. I can’t thank Barry enough. We’ve gained so much this year already. I can’t thank him enough.”

Pitkat, of Stafford, held off Tom Fearn of East Longmeadow, Mass. on the final lap.

— A bad car in practice wasn’t enough to slow down Kyle Casagrande.

The Stafford driver and his team worked out the gremlins of practice and he went on to win the 15-lap DARE Stock feature.

It was the fourth win in eight events this year for Casagrande.

“We didn’t get to go out for either practice because we were having motor issues,” Casagrande said. “The first time I went out I couldn’t even get up to speed, the second time I could only get to 5000 rpm’s. We got it fast for the heat race and loosened it up pretty good for the feature and I was pretty loose the whole time but we kept it one piece.”

— Rookie Josh Wood continued his 2012 domination of the Limited Late Model division.

Wood, of Palmer, Mass., won for the fifth time in seven events this year in the 25-lap Limited Late Model feature.

Corey Casagrande of Stafford was second and David Arute of Tolland third.
