Arute, of Tolland, came out on top of a late race battle with Josh Wood to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature at Stafford.

It was the first career victory for Arute, the son of track owners Mark and Lisa Arute.

Arute looked on cruise control to victory, but on lap 19 Wood gave him a tap in turn two and moved him out of the lead in turn two. But Arute came right back with his own tap to move back to the front in turn three.

“This car was perfect tonight,” Arute said. “I can’t thank my crew enough. They worked hard these past few weeks to get this car right. Tonight it was perfect. I hope I put on a good show for all the fans. We crossed a few people up and it was exciting. I tried not to look in my mirror at all and I just kept going and rode ahead of me and just kept going until I saw that checkered flag.”

Wood, of Palmer, Mass., held on to finish second and Andrew Hayes of Enfield was third.
