Double Down: Woody Pitkat With Second Stafford Win Of The Night In SK Modified

STAFFORD – Woody Pitkat made the most of his preparation before Friday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Pitkat came out on top of a late race battle with Ted Christopher to win the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Christopher, of Plainville, was second and Michael Gervais Jr. of Southbury third.

It was the second win of the night for Pitkat, of Stafford, who started the evening by winning the 30-lap Late Model feature with a last lap pass.

Pitkat stretched the dramatics far again in the SK Modified feature. On lap 37 Pitkat dived under Christopher to wrestle away the lead in turn three. On a green-white-checkered finish, Pitkat held off the charges of Christopher to pick up his second victory of the season in the division.

Pitkat had finished second to Christopher in the first of two SK Modified features at Stafford last week.

“I just to tried to the protect the bottom,” Pitkat said of the late race restart. “I knew he was going to be tough. It was tough enough as it was to pass him. We had a great battle last week and we put on another great show today. I’m just happy to be ahead of him this week instead of behind him.”

Said Christopher: “We only put one [tire] on tonight so that definitely plays into it a little bit. We were just too loose [into the corners]. We couldn’t get into the turn good so I slowed my entry in which kills everything all around. It was good run, fun race.”
