Stafford Notes: Frank Cardile Wins SK Light Modified Thriller

STAFFORD – The horseshoe turned for Frank Cardile Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Cardile came out on top of a last lap duel to the line with Tony Membrino Jr. to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the first victory of the season for Cardile, of Bolton.

Membrino, of Plantsville, was second and Zach Aszklar of Wallingford third.

On lap 18 Membrino went by Cardile for the lead off of turn two but Cardile grabbed the lead back from the outside lane off of turn four.

The two went side-by-side on lap 19 and stayed that way as the white flag was shown for the last lap. The cars were still even through turn three, but Cardile used the outside lane run off of turn four to win the drag race to the checkered flag.

“I’ve been having bad luck this year but I had a buddy help get me back on track here tonight,” Cardile said. “I want to thank [Tony Membrino Jr.] for racing me clean.”

It was the third consecutive second place finish for Membrino.

“It was pretty interesting,” Membrino said. “We had a real good car all day. My dad got this thing going good. We’ve been going good for the last month and a half so I’m pretty pleased with how we ran. That’s probably the most fun I’ve had, racing for the win side-by-side with that guy, I could do that any day of the week.”

In the 15-lap DARE Stock feature, Cliff Saunders of Stafford picked up his second victory of the season. Andrew Marchese of Tolland was second and James Carroll of West Hartford third.
