Dylan Kopec To Make SK Modified Debut At Stafford Speedway’s CarQuest Fall Final

THOMPSON – Dylan Kopec isn’t quite sure at this point where he’ll be driving when the 2013 season arrives, but he does know he’ll close out the 2012 season at Stafford Motor Speedway taking a step up.

The 16-year old from Palmer, Mass. will make his SK Modified debut at the season ending CarQuest Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway on Sept. 30.

Kopec, a regular the last two seasons in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford, will drive a car owned by former driver Rich Vasseur of Ellington.

“It’s a very cool opportunity,” Kopec said. “My expectations aren’t that big, but I’m still very excited to do it and to be able to do it at Stafford.”

Kopec and his father, former Modified standout Chris Kopec, have assisted Vasseur for much of the season on his efforts campaigning a go-kart as part of Stafford’s Ceric Fabrication Racing Series on Mondays. Kopec climbed the ladder to SK Light Modifieds through the Ceric Fabrication Racing Series.

“He’s a good kid and I’m glad we can do it,” Vasseur said. “Those guys have helped us so much with the go-kart this year, he deserves it.”

After going winless in his rookie year at Stafford in the SK Light Modified, Kopec has won eight of 17 events this year in the division.

The plans for next year are still in the works, though Kopec will be saying good by to the SK Lights.

“We’re definitely going to move up,” said Kopec, who was running his SK Light Modified Saturday at Thompson International Speedway. “We’re going to go either [to the Valenti Modified Racing Series] or to an SK Modified depending on what we have for a budget. Either way they’re both great divisions to be in.”
