Stafford Notes: Woody Pitkat Wins Late Model Race, Championship On Horizon

STAFFORD – Officially, Woody Pitkat couldn’t celebrate a championship just yet Friday night at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Though one would be hard pressed to blame him if he snuck a little title dance in Friday.

Pitkat drove to his fourth victory of the season in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

The victory gave Pitkat a 46-point lead over Mike Quintiliano heading into the final race of the season on Sept. 30. A race win is worth 50 points, meaning Pitkat needs only to take the green flag on Sept. 30 to clinch his second Late Model title at the track.

But Pitkat didn’t want to talk titles after the race.

“I don’t think about the points,” Pitkat said. “I’m here to win races. I’m here to win, that’s the bottom line. I might sound like a jerk, but I’m here to win races and the points will follow.”

Quintiliano, of Shelton, was second. Mark St. Hilaire of Berlin was third.

Pitkat went by St. Hilaire for the lead for good out of turn four on lap 12.

In the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature it was Zach Aszklar picking up his second victory of the season. Tony Membrino Jr. of Plantsville was second and Joey Ferrigno of East Hartford third.

Austin Bessette of Stafford won the 15-lap DARE Stock feature. Cliff Saunders of Stafford was second and Johnny Walker of Ludlow, Mass. third.
