Anyone who hasn’t seen the youtube video of the super mod crash into the catch fence should watch it and then decide if you feel safe near the fence at the speedbowl. The steel posts holding the spectator fence at the bowl do not appear strong enough to stop an airborn race car.
I’m talking about the super mod crash at Star this past weekend.
Actually if you look at Sids videos you will see the Speedbowl’s fence should be much stronger as it has 2 or 3 horizontal cables going throw the chain link fence plus additional uprights holding two more cables in front of the chain link fence. While nothing can 100% guarantee a car won’t end up in the grandstands at any track I do not think it is fair to put the Speedbowls fencing in the same category as STAR Speedways. For those that have been around long enough like me you may remember the time a car ended up in Staffords grandstands. Anything is possible.
Hey Larry I remember that crash at stafford . I believe it was corky cookman and John falconi that were involved in that wreck or was it Mike hornat or all 3 ? Not sure but feel free to correct me if I am wrong . Yea that was scary .

Boy I really dated myself with that comment ,1983 !!! I can’t believe I been going to that place that long . I bet all the money I spent there payed for them nice pit area restrooms .
I was there at Stafford speedway the day Corky cookman went into the stands.
I happened to be one of the fans that was hurt in the accident. Better saftey is always better in my eyes. Glad to still be here to talk about it.
