Not that long ago NASCAR announced that in 2019 the pole award on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour would be sponsored by Mayhew Tools.

Fittingly, that first Mayhew Tools Pole Award went to a drive who has been sporting the company’s colors for the past few years.

Five-time Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby won the pole in qualifying Saturday for the season opening Performance Plus 150 at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Coby had a fast time of 19.668 seconds (98.475 mph) around the .538-mile oval.

The event’s defending champion, Jon McKennedy, was second fastest in qualifying at 19.669 seconds (98.470 mph).

Tommy Catalano was third fastest (19.704 seconds, 98.295 mph).

Eric Goodale (19.737 seconds) and Rob Summers (19.745 seconds) rounded out the top-five in qualifying respectively.

Matt Hirschman, Chris Pasteryak, Andy Seuss, reigning series champion Justin Bonsignore and Dave Sapienza rounded out the top-10 respectivley in qualifying.
