Sources: Lancaster Speedway Likely Addition To Whelen Modified Tour Schedule In 2021

Multiple sources close to NASCAR have confirmed to RaceDayCT that Lancaster Speedway at New York International Raceway Park in Lancaster, N.Y. will be a new addition to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule for the 2021 season.

The .625-mile oval, which opened in 1959, has never hosted a Whelen Modified Tour event, though the track has been a hotbed of Tour Type Modified racing for decades. Most recently the Race of Champions Modified Tour has made regular stops at the facility.

Whelen Modified Tour series director Jimmy Wilson was not immediately available for comment Wednesday evening. attempts to reach a representative of Lancaster Speedway management were unsuccessful.

Sources have indicated that the Whelen Modified Tour will visit the facility for a July 31 race in 2021.

Five races have been confirmed for the 2021 Whelen Modified Tour season. NASCAR announced events at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway (April 8) and Richmond Raceway (Sept. 10).

Stafford Motor Speedway announced three Whelen Modified Tour events for 2021 on Wednesday on April 25, Aug. 6 and Sept. 25.

Comments

  1. NICE ADD, Lancaster has had its UPs and downs the last 5 yrs so nice to see them STEP up and bring The WMT to western NY, maybe a ROC date the same weekend at another local track for a nice double header

  2. A well received addition to the schedule indeed.

  3. Racing fans in Western New York are thrilled that a Tour event appears to be headed their way. That’s quite a contrast to the ambivalence with respect to the Tour that’s been expressed by some here in CT/New England.

  4. Glad for the NY fans to be able to see the WMT. That’s another WMT race I can’t attend; a 3-day weekend needed for a 1-day race doesn’t work for me. HOWEVER… there’s plenty of tour-type races here in New England already scheduled to go to, with potentially more to come!

  5. I like how WMass thinks. I drove by Lancaster on my way to Toronto. If I remember correctly it is right outside Buffalo. That is a long ride gotta be 6 hours one way. If you can double up with another mod race at a different track perhaps the trip becomes a little more doable for NE race fans. I think Holland speedway is around there. They had some modified races in the past. Honestly not sure if they are still open though. Great for Western NY pavement fans.

Looking forward to July 31st or what ever date happens!
