THOMPSON – Stephen Kopcik arrived at Thompson Speedway for Icebreaker weekend in April with a very defined mission plan for 2022 Sunoco Modified division races at the track.

That mission continued on a perfectly Tuesday at Thompson Speedway.

Kopcik went to the lead on lap 25 and went unchallenged the rest of the way in winning the 40-lap Sunoco Modified feature Tuesday at Thompson Speedway.

It was the third consecutive Sunoco Modified victory at the track for Kopcik. He got his first feature victory at the track at the Icebreaker on April 2 and backed it up with another win on June 15.

“Not to sound cocky, but yeah, we came here with a game plan,” Kopcik said. “We sold a couple old cars, built a new car, put all our eggs in one basket and came here with the plan. The plan was to come here, unload, be the fastest car every time and win the race. That’s what we’re doing and that’s what we work for. I’m super thankful. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve got a great group of guys.”

Troy Talman of Oxford, Mass. was second and Todd Owen of Somers third.

Kopcik passed Talman for the lead on lap 25 in the caution-free event.

“It’s tough,” Kopcik said. “These guys were definitely tougher tonight than they have been in the past few races. It’s not easy, especially in these green to checkered races.”

With Kopcik checked out in the last stages, Talman was left to fend off the charges of Owen for second place.

“Great run for us,” Talman said. “Coming off a third Friday [in the SK Modified feature at Stafford Speedway], a second tonight. We’ve got some momentum behind us now. The car was great. … I just got a little free at the end there.”

Said Owen: “I like to finish races. All in all I can’t complain with a top three. Stephen is obviously in a league of his own here. Troy was running a good race. We just didn’t have anything for Stephen at the end. Good ending for us, go home and get this thing ready for Stafford.”

I guess some people had trouble finding it on Race Monitor last night. It was there but I think it may have been inadvertently listed under road course races.

Same here. I couldn’t find it under Thompson on race monitor because I was filtered down to oval. Change to “all” like Alexandra did and there it was….
