Steaming: Despite Rally On Wet Weather Tires, Ryan Preece Angered After USA Today 301 At NHMS

LOUDON, N.H. – NASCAR and its teams got to live out a live experiment on Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

For the first time in series history, the track used wet weather tires on a damp oval during competition.

The last 76 laps of the USA Today 301 were run on wet weather tires, making for a wildly entertaining closing stage as drivers used numerous grooves and lanes on the track under green flag conditions.

Before the rain delay Ryan Preece was mired in 28th place in a car that wasn’t making up any ground. With the wet weather tire, Preece found himself in a competitive car and drove to an 11th place, marking his second best finish of the season in the Cup Series.

Despite the massive rally, Preece was left frustrated by some calls from his team late in the race.

“I’m just pissed because I need to start … what I want to do is I want to race more. I want to go do what I used to do and race all the fucking time because you just get in that mindset of kill or be killed right? I’m not saying I’m not in that mindset, but, I get so frustrated and I shouldn’t listen to others. I should do what I know is right. I’m not saying it’s anything on them, what I’m getting at is playing it safe never fucking works. You’ve got to take risks. I’m just pissed because we should have had a top-10, maybe a top-five if it all worked out.”

They should have let him go after it. The wet weather tires seemed to wake the car up some, and he made great progress using the “Santos apronlow groove” and the high groove. I definitely thought he had a good chance to be in the middle of the top ten.

They have been holding him back all year… let the kid race for Christs sake….
