    Not Enough Money For Matt?

  2. Seen on Money Matt website, upcoming races; Stafford open masters, WMT at Monadnock and Tri-Track at WMMP.

  3. let me start off by saying i applaud Stafford for trying this and increasing the purse vs their standard open shows.

28 cars on the entry list at the time of posting. I’m sure thatll be more than the tour this weekend. But like usual, it’s filled with SK and skl drivers with a small handful of interesting invaders. And with exactly a full field (as of this moment) i expect the heats to kinda fall flat, especially with their lineups set by time trials.

Time trials will be very exciting to me, though.

12,000 is nice, but not really big money these days. but the falloff after that is pretty high (like most). IDK if anyone outside the top 4 is paying their tire and fuel bill. Let alone travel, admissions and wear and tear etc. makes it really easy for anyone that doesn’t live down the road to skip.

a normal open 80 purse is listed as $24,060. This is listed as $68,000.

$44,000 more to get 6 more cars to show up vs the first open 80 this year. It just doesn’t make sense for these tracks to keep doing this.

Again, none of these are a Stafford problem. It’s an everything problem.

  4. Djyss14,
Well, Stafford has been updating the entry list daily and he’s not on there, so he obviously has not filed an entry.

  5. Capt. Mike Qbvious says

As I write this, there is a note on Matt Hirschman’s official website that he will not be racing at Stafford.

    https://www.matthirschman.com/

  6. Ron Silk and the 16 team @ Stafford last two years

    2023 Sizzler Duel-Win
    2023 Sizzler-Win
    2023 Fall Final-2nd to Hirschman
    2024 Sizzler Duel-Win
    2024 Sizzler-Win
No other open participation with the customary winners share.

Pretty safe to say the 16 team is at the top of their game, they come to Stafford only when it’s a healthy winners share and the odds pretty good they’ll be taking it home with them. Silk might not be “The” Big Money but lately seems to be a lot of money. Is that why Hirschman might not be making the trip we can’t know but it is on the table for noodling.

Absolutely love the Zigs commentary both thoughtful and informative. The observations mostly true as far as I can see but perhaps some context may modify the conclusion.

The four mid season opens at Stafford in 2023 averaged 21 cars with the high being the Lincoln Tech race @ 24. Neither Hirschman or Silk were at any of them. Reen and Goodale win the first two, Pitkat in Dunleavy’s 88 wins the second two. The flavor in each very much Stafford home boys.

28 cars in tomorrows event an improvement in quantity. Silk, Larsen, Jankowiak one might count as notables. Other popular invaders might include the 50 that no longer is associated with Stafford’s regular divisions, the Casella 25, Pitkat in the 8, Austin Beers, Pasteryak, the 00 with Christopher driving and Eric Goodale.

So what’s the goal of offering a richer purse? Get more cars for sure so you can check that box. Some big names so that box gets checked as well. Most important is more fans and that remains to be seen.

If the field is dominated by Stafford regulars is that a sign the show has less status? These aren’t tours like the NWMT or MMTTS they’re purely Stafford. The people attending the race Stafford fans so they want to see their favorites going up against invaders.

Looks to me like Stafford realized they had a declining mid season open product last year and did what good managements do they made changes. One less event, this one with more pizzazz with early indications it’s working at least before the ticket booth opens up tomorrow night.

  7. Fast Eddie says

Let’s hope the weather doesn’t prevent that ticket window from opening…

  8. MH rarely strays from skidpads.

  9. Getserious says

“Larsen” ?? Haha, You mean Newman, I’m guessing. With the dropping car counts and the boring, single-file racing in the last few Opens I was afraid that getting the great Newman to show up was going to be a desperate jump-the-shark move to save them. I hope not. The increased car count looks promising, but we’ll see.

  10. Fast Eddie says

I guess I have low standards. Given the current situation with Modified car counts, I’ll take 24+ Open Mods anytime! Plus, who knows how many SKL’s will be there. I’ve seen a couple of 30+ fields for them.

  11. So the weather may be a problem tomorrow. Any guess when it will start? Usually with a cold front coming in or sudden pattern change guarantees some sort of poor weather. Not sure If it’s worth traveling to have it downpour. Already experienced that earlier in the year at Stafford

  12. If they start the fast cars up front most likely it will be only a one or two lead change races – SKL will be exciting if they use handicap system

  13. Just Saying says

Blah, Blah, Blah, Where are all the Pre-Madonna’s from the modified tour? Oh that’s right, they just race part-time, besides they need permission from NASCAR

  14. Camerissa says

Does that mean all the people on the tour that were around before Madonna was born? 🤣
Huge extra large Stafford purse of 68000.
Monadnock purse of 85000 plus granite cup payout and hefty year end Nascar point fund.
The tour teams aren’t going to risk wadding up their car 3 days before monadnock. Silk uses a different car and engine in open events.

  15. I miss the Pre-Madonna era of Modified Racing with the big block engines. That was a great time for Modifieds.

    😁

  16. Camerissa- we all ran three to 4 nights a week with one car. Most of the teams now have 2 or 3 cars at their disposal

Yeah, I remember when Richie and Bodine were going at it, wrecking each other just about every chance. In an interview, Richie asked Geoff how many cars he had. Geoff replied, “Two”. Richie told him he had 3, do the math. That was great!!!! Richie was awesome!!!
