STAFFORD – Tyler Chapman’s domination of the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Speedway was once again on display Friday.

Chapman, of Ellington, held off the charges of Chris Matthews late to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the sixth victory in 12 start this season in the division for Chapman, who holds a massive lead in the division standings.

Matthews, of Stafford, was second and Chris Viens of Putnam third.

The initial start of the event was a mess when the third place starting car of Bob Charland failed to get up to speed at the green flag and caused a chain reaction wreck behind him.

The race slowed by caution again on the second lap for a backstretch wreck.

On the lap two restart Tyler Chapman was able to get by Casey Vogt for the lead, with Meg Fuller moving to second, but the moves were all for naught with caution quickly flying again for a turn one wreck at the rear of the field.

On the second attempt at a lap two restart it was Chapman once again gettin by Vogt for the lead, with Fuller following to second.

“Right at the beginning of the race when that first wreck happened we were tried the bottom and it didn’t work,” Chapan said. “So once we got that second place we we knew we had a chance there.”

By lap seven Matthews had moved past Fuller to get to second while Chapman checked out in the front. Caution was back out again on lap nine.

“I was out there for a while by myself and then caution came out,” Chapman said. “I was definitely worried. I knew the car wasn’t up to par as we like it. But once that caution came out I just had to beat him and pretty much hope he doesn’t get me.”

Chapman and Matthews broke away from Fuller quickly after the lap nine restart. Matthews stalked Chapman the rest of the way but couldn’t find a lane for a pass.

“I thought we were going to get him in the end there and he just got a little quicker and we tightened up a touch,” Matthews said.
