For the last few years longtime local racer Shawn Monahan has been behind helping forward the racing career of his son Brody beyond the Northeast and into the ultra-competitive world of Pro Late Model competition in the Southeast.

Doing that was facilitated through the Monahan family building relationships with established teams that field cars for those looking at paying for the chance to run for teams ready to go racing in the Southeast.

But now Shawn Monahan has decided that instead of just renting rides to get his son into competition at the top levels of Pro Late Model racing, he’s just going to buy a whole team and get into the business himself.

This past season 16-year old Brody Monahan ran a number of events for the Mooresville, N.C. based Walker Motorsports team owned by Chris Walker.

Now Shawn Monahan has bought the team.

“We were looking at 2026 with what Brody wanted to do and as far as where he wanted to race and what races he wanted to go after,” Shawn Monahan told RaceDayCT. “And high on Brody’s list was to try and go back and try to win races at New Smyrna [Speedway].

“I had spoken with Walker Motorsports about which team we were going to run with and the opportunity came up through some small talk. I had offered a few times over to buy one of the race cars off of Chris [Walker]. And as we spoke more in depth on a daily basis it just kind of came about that I ended up owning all three of his cars and all of his equipment and shop space.”

Monahan expects the still unnamed team to make its debut under his ownership at the Red Eye at New Smyrna Speedway on Jan. 3.

“It was a natural choice for me to entrust Shawn with what we have built,” Chris Walker said in a release. “We both have the same vision. I’ve taken it as far as I can go, and after what Shawn and I talked about, it just made sense for him to take it to the next level.”

Said Shawn Monahan: “It wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t inquiring about going through the rental program another time, but in the back of my mind I’ve always known that I wanted to own a team. So now we’ll have a team with multiple cars. … Walker’s operation, as far as I’m concerned, has top notch equipment.”

The team will field cars next season for Brody Monahan and is actively seeking out drivers and marketing partners interested in partnering with the organization.

“We can put people in cars, maybe even some guys in the New England area might want to come down and try running some [Pro Late Model] races,” Shawn Monahan said. “I think there’s a lot of hidden talent in New England and I’d love to help showcase that down south.”

New England native Scott Anderson, a longtime crew chief in the Modified ranks, will be the team’s crew chief and manage day to day operations of the team in Mooresville.

“I feel really good to have Scott as the crew chief,” Shawn Monahan said. “A New England guy himself that’s very knowledgeable. He’s going to head up the day to day operations in North Carolina while I stay up north.”
