What Some Around The Whelen Modified Tour Are Saying About Gary Putnam As New Series Director

On Monday NASCAR announced that Gary Putnam would take over the job of Whelen Modified Tour Series director.

Tuesday we talked with some familiar names around the series to get their reaction to Putnam being named to the position.

We heard from team owner Tommy Baldwin Jr., drivers Matt Hirschman, Kyle Bonsignore, Patrick Emerling and Tyler Rypkema and chassis builder/team consultant Rob Fuller on the topic of Putnam’s hiring.

“You’ve got to credit [outgoing series director Jimmy Wilson] for everything that he’s done for us,” Baldwin said. “I’m not saying anything bad about him, but it’s time for a little bit of a culture change in that world to ‘Hey loosen up a little bit, here’s what’s really important, here’s what’s not.’”
