Longtime local announcer Joe Coss will join the public address announcing team at NASCAR owned properties in 2026.

Coss’ new duties for NASCAR Cup Series weekends at various tracks will begin will begin with the 68th Daytona 500 on Feb. 15 at Daytona International Speedway. Coss has been a regular track announcer at Daytona since 2013 and also has worked Cup Series event weekends at Phoenix Raceway and Watkins Glen International.

His new role will take him to a plethora of new facilities as an announcer for Cup Series events and other NASCAR series events in 2026.

“As a kid my dad brought me to Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey for the NHRA National Events,” Coss said. “I listened to Bob Frey at 10 years old and knew I wanted to be an announcer. From then on it has been my goal to reach the national stage.”

Like many other local announcers who have found their way from short track racing to the national stage, Coss is a product of Stafford Speedway.

Coss made his debut at Daytona International Speedway as an announcer for the Daytona Battle at the Beach in 2013, where he worked with NASCAR Hall of Fame Ken Squier.

“Stafford runs a professional race program that mirrored what I experienced when I got to Daytona the first time,” Coss said. “When I stepped into the booth, Ken (Squier) and I clicked right away and it reminded me of announcing with Ben Dodge at Stafford. It felt like home from the start which led to more opportunities.”

Like others before him, Coss has developed a unique storytelling quality that keeps fans engaged at the track.

“I enjoy the process of digging for a story, tying it all together, and delivering it at the right time,” Coss said. “You learn a sixth sense of when to pull at the heartstrings or amp a crowd up at the right time, which is the art of announcing.”

As reported last week by RaceDayCT, Coss will step away from his role as one of the lead announcers for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on FloRacing.

Coss still has a passion for drag racing and was a track champion at New England Dragway in Epping, N.H. in 2025. Coss has also passed his passion for drag racing to his three sons, who compete in Junior Dragsters. Coss and his sons combined for 11 victories in 2025.

“My priority is as a husband and a father to my three boys and the time I have with them is short,” Coss said. “My national series schedule leans busiest in the early spring and late fall, which balances our family time during the summer, allowing me to announce and race as a family. For us, it presents the best of both worlds.”
