On March 5 RaceDayCT broke the news exclusively that former New London-Waterford Speedbowl general manager Shawn Monahan was likely to take on a management role at the Speedbowl in 2026.
On Tuesday Monahan confirmed that he is taking on a role titled Director of Racing Operations at the Speedbowl for the 2026 season.
“I’m going to play a role in 2026 at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl,” Monahan said during an appearance Tuesday on the Sid’s View Podcast. “… If I were to cut to the chase of my particular role, I would say race director, race day operations. From the time the competitors show up at the race track to the time they go home, I want that to be my baby.”
Monahan, a longtime racer at the Speedbowl, was the general manager of the track in 2015 and 2016. He was the first general manager of the facility after Bruce Bemer took over ownership of the property.
Monahan also confirmed that longtime Speedbowl tech inspector Mark St. Hilaire, who had left the facility, will return in 2026.
