On Wednesday news broke that four-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Justin Bonsignore and his Ken Massa owned race team would skip Saturday’s All States Materials Group 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine.
On Thursday morning, via a post on Facebook, Bonsignore brought a little more clarity to the decision in announcing that the team will also skip the Bob Katon J&R Pre-Cast 150 on May 16 at Seekonk Speedway.
“We will take this time to continue to invest in our program and come back stronger,” Bonsignore said. “The decision to not compete in these two events is not related to health.”
Bonsignore said the team will return to action at Riverhead Raceway for the Miller Lite Salutes Don Howe 300 on May 30.
Bonsignore has started 243 consecutive Whelen Modified Tour events for Massa. Bonsignore’s 48 career Whelen Modified Tour wins ranks him second all-time with the series. Bonsignore won Whelen Modified Tour titles in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2023. Bonsignore has run full-time for Massa on the Whelenn Modified Tour since the start of the 2010 season.
Bonsignore opened this season with a victory at New Smyrna Speedway on Feb. 7. He was seventh in the division’s most recent event on April 12 at Thompson Speedway and he currently sits fifth in the series standings.
